What's the worth of this NOS LP Studion classic 60s T?

Last night, this popped up at my favourite Korean guitar store. I think it's a NOS 2011 Sam Ash Limited Edition - looks very similar to a 2016 studio T, but with a nicer top and binding under frets. I am very very tempted, but at $1400 it seems on the expensive side. Having said that it's $100 cheaper than a 2016 studioT and $300 cheaper than a 2017 studioT and probably a better guitar (?).

I bought a 2011 NOS SG recently and it's great, so I have no problem with the concept, I'm just not sure about the price. Is this guitar worth $1000 or worth more than a 2017?

Slim Taper Neck - This is the thing neck with a narrower-at-the-nut string spacing that the "clubby" 50's rounded profile. Keep that fact in mind....
 
It looks really freaking nice... i THINK it's a reasonable price (keyword) but when it comes to guessing the actual worth, I'm shite. BUT, if I liked the tone and playability, and had the money. I would snatch it up myself.

Then you have the Les Paul studio deluxe II 60's which offer coil split and a boost circuit for the same price if you want to wait and see if the shop gets one of these in.. it just doesn't come in that really nice blue

I know a lot of people don't really care about coil splitting and boosts, just giving you an idea of another les Paul for the same money really

I doubt we'll get that here in Korea, but you never know...

Looking through the specs and other Gibson guitars, this is pretty similar to the 2017 studios; different nut, baked maple board, no coil split, binding, no pick guard, a nice blue all around, and the black Canadian made case instead of the brown 'traditional' case.

It's a strange beast, somewhere between a studio and a classic which probably makes it reasonable value, but I'd still rather pay $1200 for it than $1400. I can get a 2016T studio for a bit less money (although the finishes are not as nice; played one in a local shop and they are very nice).

If it has that mix of qualities you like, and you are planning on keeping the guitar, and it cannot be found elsewhere, it would be short sighted to worry about a few hundred dollars either way. Would you prefer to pay $200 less for a guitar you do not like as much? How much does that anount to over the life of the guitar. When you balance regret and $200 on either side of a scale, regert is very likely to win hwavily outweigh the $$$.

FWIW, my LP R'60 VOS (R6) was a Sam Ash special run, and it may be the best Gibson LP I have ever laid hands on.
 
I wish you two hadn't chimed in! I agree with the comments.

The really nice 60s tribute is $550 less without a case, so say $350 less... Tomorrow is holiday special prices (not sure what they are yet, but likely to drop 10%), so I'll see how I can negotiate. The problem is that the courier company, due to the holidays this week in Korea, won't deliver the PRS to them until Monday/Tuesday then their techs have to look it over, so there's elements of goodwill - their guitars are also in many locations, the techs are 100kms away from this LP. We will see.

I'll bet he doesnt even KNOW what impedence the pups are-----or what if any tone caps where used.......what a HACK --oy and those AMPS ---and that tiny drum kit.........and damn good thing they didnt let the singer play guitar --- ugh--- fumble fingers Ferguson there...........this band is going no where --- the bass player kicks ass though

You guys have no idea how lucky you are...I hear a song, I see the fretboard positions in my head and my mind starts figuring out the key and wondering what amp and puckups were used....like I still remember the VIN of my first car - XP29H9B145928 - a 1969 Dodge Charger....and I don't try to remember this stuff....it just happens. ..
 
Damn dude...........I dont remeber the VIN of my CURRENT car----- or my drivers license number.......but then --- I drink a lot so its probably just me...

And I probably drink more than you...a girl's phone number from 1979....SSN of all my kids....serials of all my guitars, amps and effects....I can't explain it...and yet, I forget to put the trash out on Monday's....a real idiot savant.
 
I haven't read the complete replies. It looks like a cool guitar though; a Studio with neck binding is appealing to me. If you think $1400 is a bit steep, make them an offer or ask for a discount.

There are times when I think an LP Special Pro would be the perfect LP for me; slab mahogany body, bound neck, dot fret markers and humbuckers. :hmmm:

Also, it has not been my experience that the modern 60's necks (as opposed to real 60's necks) are narrower at the nut, but slimmer front to back. Also the USA models are not as wide (50's or 60's) as the Historic or Custom Shop models.
 
I didn't vote because I don't know what guitar values are like in Korea. I do know however, that
Les Paul guitars are normally overpriced, going up to $8000 for the same damn thing you are looking
at. (with a few added baubles maybe). So $1400 for one doesn't seem outrageous by comparison.
Especially if you can play it, and respond to the feel and the weight of it.

I'm with Robert when it comes to picking it up and playing it. For me, the ability to actually
play the guitar in question is worth much more than some people think. I normally caution newbies
against buying anything blind on the internet. Not saying you are a newb, you know your way around. But I've read too many posts by guitarists who should have known better, and who bought something after looking at a picture or asking the advice of strangers and then were bitterly disappointed.

So if you've gone and played it, and you know you like it, then you should buy it and not worry
about the price. The price seems fair to me. NOT a 'great bargain" or a deal-that's-a-steal...
But if you pay a fair price for something you like, can you be unhappy?

My own Les Paul-that-got-away was like the one shown above by mw... mahogany LP special with burst buckers. I saw it hanging in a guitar store, used, priced at $500. I played it and liked it a lot. It was very comfortable and sounded great. I put it back, resisting the G.A.S.
...but I dreamed about that guitar later that night. I resisted the next day, and dreamed about it again... so the third day I went back to roll away the stone. Of course the guitar ws gone. I obviously didn't need it that badly. I'm blessed with excellent guitars. But I haven't forgotten, like a fisherman who sees the great fish, but can't catch it.
