I grew up modestly. So everything was the result of hard work and was cherished. Its just a part of me.

that stress crack looks like it might have been caused by excessive cranking on the
truss rod. I'd take that to a good luthier and get the truss rod nut checked
carefully, to make sure it's not bearing down too hard on the wood in that area.
It could have a washer inserted maybe... and a little water thin super glue
injected into the crack.

That's what I'd do, if I were going to keep the instrument and use it.

Looking in the truss rod cavity it looks like there may already have been an adhesive of some kind applied, notice the excess toward the top of the cavity. Cheers

The fellow inthe original post here would faint if he saw the damage to the T-40 I have.......it looks (and feels) like it was drug behind a car on a gravel road.....and these are just body shots the neck has been abused as well........but the Earth trembling deep vibrations that eminate from this thing ----I could care less what it LOOKS like only how it plays and sounds......

Much Like me (and all of us over the age of 25) the scars and wounds and damage are what MAKES us what we are ----- a pristine bass ........is not TRULY a bass IMHO --- they NEED battle scars--- chunks missing and MOJO scars --- this particualr beastie has been around since 79. .......she has earned her mojo...and she plays and sounds AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!

THIS would certainly cause that dude to faint.........I was assured it has been taht way for at least a decade---- I am monitorinbg it but seems ok.
No truss rod issues.....cant "feel" it seems a stress crack from Lord Knows When.....

That's what I'd do, if I were going to keep the instrument and use it.

It is possible--- however at present the truss rod adjusts (left and right) nice and smooth with slight resistance---- nothing out of the ordinary.

I am keeping a close eye it and have measured the crack to monitor any increase in cracking......so far in 3 weeks --- no change---

It will not have the hard life here it was previously accustomed to. climate controlled and cared for I am confident it will out live me.
