Me too!?! A round trip to town would have been 30-40 minutes at minimum, lots of time for nasty conflagration to be out of control. There was a moment early on as I thought I've got 5 minutes to knock the fire's dick in the dirt or I'm going to start shuttling guitar bits and pictures - guns might not make it as they're upstairs - to the garage. At this point I was also wearing a vapor level mask for the smoke. Ah the stupid sh*t we think under stress.

Sad thing is I still haven't found my soldering iron as I also got to replace plastic [?!?] fittings on a pressurized water system - two trips to town for the bits as I couldn't find my pipe tape... I'll get this house beat into shape a wrinkle at a time.

Took a day for the adrenaline to wear off to post this.

A lot of you know we bought a new place in Lake Arrowhead last year In following my DOC’s Studio build thread. Our last home had a nice BBQ island I built, but I certainly couldn’t move that to the new place so I ordered a new grill for the new house Last month. It got placed against the house in the picture below, just below that light and you can see the natural gas line in the lower right.



So we have friends over for the weekend and we did BBQ chicken on the grill. Nice dinner. Around 2 AM Karen and I both smelled...

My previous 3 homes were all stucco so I’ve never really thought of issues having a wood sided house. Even though that area was designed for a BBQ, I‘m sure it was NOT designed for a BBQ to be too close and on high for 6 hours. The BBQ Did not catch fire Since it was not on fire when I turned it off at 2 AM. My theory is it got the internal wood of the house so hot that after I turned it off, the wood was was already smoldering in the wall and combusted an hour later.
The next BBQ will be propane and will only be used out in the driveway.

Wow! I got to get some of that sealant mentioned in that thread.

Bordering the fire pierced wall was a decorative wood chip garden - the entire thing was glowing red. No more !^#^##$%!! wood chips - river rock coming in.

This house has baseboard and 'cove' [why put a heat source high on the wall?!?] electric heaters that may have been the final straw for the kludged wiring job. They are all coming out at some point as they are nothing but giant toasters sucking up amps.

Now back to your regularly scheduled programming - I'll get the blues installed and wired up to test before I round the corners Marshall style [1"] and put on the grill cloth an piping.

I thought I would install the blues before I put the grill cloth on which meant taking them out and putting them back in - nope.

Then in my grand tradition of 'hey, let's do that' and make the project take longer I decided to upgrade my old grill fixture which was sized for the one leg side of the table with lots of rock and roll to the other side with two clamping fixtures.

New fixture as a screw goes into the baffle.

Fixtures attached and clamped to the bench. I had to drill out relief holes for the speaker mounting screws.

Got to here tonight and ran out of gas and lock washers for #10 screws. Mumble.

In addition to the 'foot' stretcher I used a reversed clamp to apply tension. Worked out but I had to push the wooden box to keep it from popping off.

Rubber grill cloth is a bit a challenge - unlike the paper based you can't wet and heat it. The lines make it easier to keep straight.

No piping yet and the back needs to be drilled for screws.

Got two placed will need a hardware run tomorrow.
