Ok,

I been using the Burstbucker Pro in my S-G. Not a bad pickup...but compared to the 498T in my Gibson Les Paul, the leads are thinner because it develops less gain.

I have an unopened Gibson 57 Classic Plus sitting here on my shelf, but I don't think it will give me much more than what I already have.

Whatever I use must have a nickel or chrome cover.

I feel like the Suhr Doug Aldrich Humbuckers are too hot at 17k.

I would like a little more output and gain, without becomming "sterile" and the fattest lead tone possible.

Thoughts???

Robert, I have a 490T in my Faded, a BB2 in my Tribute, and a Gibson Angus in my Standard. I equally love the tone of the 490 and the Angus (high output), so perhaps the
Gibson Angus would be a great choice for you? BBs sound thin to me in my 60s Tribute SG.

You might want to talk to Dave at Sigil. He can make you a set to get any tone you want. Check out his Steve “Lips” Kudlow set. He could put covers on them if you want or modify them to get the tone you want. I like his other pickups but they are more of a bluesy sound. The Kudlow set is the most versatile I’ve ever used. My set is uncovered and not wax potted and I have no problem with gain. I thought I would but he said Lips likes them unpotted so I tried it. I really like how they go from clean to scream with a twist of the volume. I had them in an Explorer for a while. It was an awesome metal machine. I just put them in a Epi Dot today and they get a mean blues crunch that can go into metal territory with the right amp. Haven’t tried the Epi live yet. Might get some feedback in a semi hollow.

I've been looking at the Gibson 500T and the Iommi as well...
 
My friend - Fil Oliveri - has been wanting me to try his Solo Dalls Storm. He claims it will give a nice boost to even a low output pickup, but I do not think it will compliment a hybrid amp like a Valvestate...

Hell, I guess I could just throw this Gibson 57 Classic Plus in since it's just sitting here....then figure out which way to go a bit later...

Very cool demo. Fil is always entertaining to watch. His expressions bust me up. But yeah... sounds like the Storm definitely adds some serious tube-like note blooming and sustain to that amp. I'm very surprised in what the Storm did to the amp's clean channel tone. Didn't know it was capable of adding that much distortion.

You could try the Dirty Fingers. Double pole pieces so I would guess you would have to lower the one row to accommodate a cover.

They are really mean but they clean up very well.
