Picked up a new toy...1980s Marshall Lead 12 Combo

I got this at a really good price so I figured, why not? I read good things about them all the time on line. It's quite dirty and it has a small hole in the grill cloth, but it works, the only issue I found is the volume pot cuts in and out a little at lower volumes and is a little crackly when turning it. Other than that it's fine. I'm pretty sure that's not the original power cord, I might just replace it and the volume pot, and of course the speaker.

So I was going to go ahead and swap the speaker out with a G10 Greenback I have, but stopped dead in my tracks when I realized the leads are soldered to the speaker tabs. I moved recently and still haven't been able to unpack my tools. I have no idea where my soldering iron is ATM. Now I think I'm going to just install a jack so I can plug in a separate cab if I want. I already have a tail to use with the combo speaker, just need to put in a jack.

It really does need a speaker change tho at some point. Put V 10 in mine and totally changed for the better. A really fun little amp.
Good job and congrats on that! Enjoy.

I pulled out my pedals today and gave this thing a proper test drive and I have to say I'm impressed. This little thing has got some serious balls! If I had known about these when I first started playing electric guitar back in the late 80s I might have actually learned to play instead of fight with crap gear for years. I see what the hype is all about now.

I wrote many songs on the one I had. Had it for years, and gave it, as a graduation gift, to the other guitarist’s( from my old band) son.I still have fond memories of it.

Great little amp with a ton of attitude! There was a time when you could literally buy one of these for a cheaper price than what you'd spend on dinner at Chili's. But, as time passed and people realized just how great they were, the market demand drove up and basically all of the Marshall Solidstate Lead series amps became highly sought after. So, it's a sleeper hit!

Congrats and enjoy!
