There is also the thought that only one pickup has less magnetic pull on the strings dampening string vibration, therefore affecting tone and sustain.Never thought about it but it makes total sense really. The more you route out a guitar, the less overall body is there to create sustain and resonance. Great example is Leslie West and his Les Paul Juniors: tiny guitar, insanely thick sound


I do tend to think there is something to this. But...I use the neck pickup too much to give them up entirely, so I only have one guitar with a single pickup.
I like the multi pickup option myself: rather have it there and not use it than want it and it not be there. But i have nothing against single pickup guitars eitherI still like having the two P90s over the one. To me two pickups makes the guitar look nicer, IMHO.

Crank it to '7' and just play. You cannot hear any difference between my Schecter, Jackson or Les Pauls live in a mix...
