PGK Tele Kit Build Thread

Settle down, guys.

So far, all we’ve seen is a picture of a box.

Let’s not forget the credo, “Pics, or it never happened!”

Sorry, Sysco. But, we need a bit more of a reveal, Bud!

I think Goo used them for his SG build---- your in for some fun !!! and an awesome axe.
Yup.... JohnnyGoo has at least a couple PGK builds to his credit. And, I have experienced one PGK build already, with my SG Junior, aka: Norton... all JohnnyGoo's fault, thank you.

Man that is one fine lookin box....(y) Hope there wasn't damage to the guitar after seeing the box.
Fortunately, no damage. Funny how the "Fragile" label is right next to the goober on the box...

Right when the UPS delivery guy showed up, I was getting ready to take off for a practice session at my friends. I got pretty excited, and quickly took and posted that pic for this new thread. Also quickly open the box to make sure the goober on the box wasn't something more serious.

Pics coming later today. I promise... :fingersx:

Warning: PIC HEAVY!!!

The body really is ready for painting. Just one very minor flaw that I'll show later.

Swamp Ash body weighs 4 lbs and 15.4 ounces. Hard Rock Maple neck with maple fretboard weighs 1 lb and 5.4 ounces. So, a dry weight of 6 lbs and 4.8 ounces total.

Looks like a one piece body:

But, it's really two pieces! The matching is unbelievable... :yesway:

Here's the minor flaw. It should be easily remedied. The wood obstruction that needs to be removed is very thin:

NECK...

Frets are leveled, and the ends feel very smooth. The frets will need polishing, though. Piece of cake! I also want to round or roll the fretboard edges a lot more. Medium Jumbo on the fretwire. 12" fretboard radius. 1 11/16" nut width. A very comfortable Medium "C" neck profile. Truss rod is a dual action stainless steel unit.

Nice thickness of the maple fretboard:

Hard Rock Maple, Baby... :dood:

Yup... some fret polishing absolutely needed:

And finally, the only part I have for this future Tele: Seymour Duncan Antiquity II...

Very nice wavy grain on the body! The neck is no slouch either.

"The body really is ready for painting"

This line scares me. I hope you use that term to include stain and seal. It would be a shame to put a solid color over that wood grain.

That lumber is so nice id stain it
"Painting" was used loosely. Definitely staining and allowing for the wood grain to show. I asked PGK's, Phil Cook, if he could pick out some swamp ash with interesting grain patterns, and that I intended to finish the guitar in a butterscotch blonde color which shows the grain. Not sure if I'll stick to the butter-blond color, though. Not really sure in how I'm going to finish this one. Oil? Laquer? I've been trying to learn more info on Wudtone products... check it at: Finishing – DIY Kits - Wudtone Custom Guitar Innovation | Hardware & Finishes

Will this be an Esquire project?
Yes sir.
