Peavey 6505 Piranha

I got one from the Musician's Friend SDOTD yesterday. I had held off on it originally. At the end of the day I figured I would get it. It is a hybrid like the Orange Micro Terror. I have actually played the full size head 6505 a bit back. They are two different amps though, it is like comparing a Champ to a Dual Showman. It has a send/return like the Dark MT. When I get it I'll show pics if you guys are interested.

I came soooooo close to picking one of these up yesterday. I ended up getting the Orange Micro Dark instead, but only because I slightly preferred the clean tones. The distortion tones were a toss up and the Peavey is better built IMO. Really nice package.

I actually decided to get one of the little heads because I have reached the point that my Boss Katana is just not doing it for me. I need an analog amp even for practice - and just the short time I spent with the Micro Dark with my pedalboard in the loop running through a Recto 1x12 was all I needed to convince me I was right. There is something "organic" about an actual amp and pedals that can't (yet) be replicated with digital.

Hope you love it when it arrives.

Got it and tried it out just with headphones and an SG to make sure it works. I can't seem to bring up the manual from the CD rom disc it comes on. I called the number they give to get a hard copy one and they're sending me one. I just barely pulled it out of the box. It comes with a shipping type "Peavey" box and inside is the actual amp box ( I like that!) The lead channel seems to be the noisy one, but it has a really strong type gainy type tone. The EQ I believe works opposite than the one on a Blackstar. The crunch channel seems like it might be able to take pedals after all. I still have not check it out even close to where I want. I need to plug my Peavey JF-1 and see how it sounds through this amp also. I'll do a picture later. I still need to listen to it through a cab.

I have one-- and yes........they are AWESOME......keep your eye on CL> they pop up now and again for 3-400.00 or less......for a Vintage USA Made guitar you cant beat it
Find a 70's Fender, B.C. Rich, Carvin or Gibson for that price......

WELL --- I had a credit with REVERB for some shipping damage--- and --- I decided to BLOW it on one of these little MICRO peaveys....

and --- in TRUE peavey fashion --- do they say "dont swap the tubes its dangerous -- may cause injury may void the warranty--- NOPE --- they SUGGEST swaping the tube and make it VERY easy ---5 small screws rip one out pop a different one in--- try MANY find "your tone" -=-

PEavey --- going their own way for over 5 decades !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SO there ya go--- if you want a nice alternative to the Orange Micro Terror--- (aka the Grumpy Chihuahua) try a Peavey Piranha --- the Grumpy Guppy!

I actually wish that I had gotten this amp instead of the Micro Dark. I tried them out at the same time and for some reason went home with the Orange but I've come to think the Peavey is the better option. Have fun with it.
