Well I bought this nice ebony board PRS SE earlier this year. The previous owner did a nice job modding it with SD Pearly Gates pups, locking tuners, CTS push pull pots to split both, orange drop cap, Tusq nut, new 3 way switch and Switchcraft jack. It’s a great sounding and playing guitar.
So when I first saw those red/gold trim alumitones, I was thinking to myself, dang, I don’t have a guitar to put those in. Then one day, the epiphany hit, I can move the mods from “Pearly Gates” to either Root Beer, TB (Tabacco Burst), or Zebra (Zebrawood), 3 other PRS SEs I acquired.
But this mod now requires I go the bling route and convert “Red” (new name) to gold hardware. The quest was on. Along the way I found flat bottom pup rings made out of ebony. They just screamed, buy me. I’m also gonna use concentric pots for individual volume/tone for each pup so it will have a Les Paul/SG type setup. Not sure which wiring plan I’m gonna use yet.
So, from the pics, you can see I got the pups, pup rings, CTS pots, knobs, locking tuners, and jack. I can’t seem to find a gold vibrato other than a dang PRS one that’s like $450. I’m still searching for that. Once I find that, I’ll come back and add to this string as the work progresses.
Of course, once this is done, I’m have to install the Pearly Gates next…..
