Panama Cab Sound Sample - Thoughts & Opinions

Side by side that first one sounds even worse than when I first listened...

Where did Adrian go??? We need another set of ears or two...

Agreed. I do not know if they are my dream speakers, but at least I feel that I am hearing them for what they are now. Too bad most heads do not have 8 ohm outputs. I think I will wire this in parallel so it is operating at 8 ohms to see the difference when played with the original head. That should be interesting

Two 8 ohms in parallel is 4 ohms, right? Series double the ohms parallel halve it...I think??? Best look that up...

Checked to make sure...two 8 ohm loads in parallel is going to get you 4 ohm load. You need two 16 ohm speakers in parallel...or two 4 ohm in series.
Yes, that is right. Man, power amps are tricky! Even the early breakup is gone now.

They sound better than the recording live. Now I will break them in when I have the house to myself and see how they develop. Thanks for the help Chris!

Late to the party...was actually playing music with another human....got to play an early 70s Ric 4003...very Lemmy...but I digress...

Wow! What a clear example of a “safe mismatch” scenario! The unbroken-in cab sounded really anemic when plugged in to an 8 Ohm out on your Panama, then kinda woofy with the Blackstar...better, more like a tight set of speakers that need a good flogging.

Sp8ctre is right...that cab can only be wired either 16, or 4 Ohm. 8 Ohm is not possible with those speakers. If given the option, I would have chosen the cab in an 8 Ohm configuration with your set up. Here, at my place, I would find a home for it either way. I do like to mix, and match multiple cabs. If you have another 16 Ohm cab, you can daisy chain it from the Panama cab to make an 8 Ohm load that your Panama head would be happy with...it might sound cool too...it might not though.

Good luck Ray.

No problem!

Drop one of those 8 ohm in a 1x12 and see how its sound or get tricky and look up a multi tap or switching system so you can choose your impedance!
