Adrian, I first got bitten by checking when I first visited a 1960's ES 335 in Brown Walnut color about 15 years ago at a Music store south of me but they had to wait 30 days to get it cleared by cops as not stolen. I never got to go back to try to buy it.

I have been DRAWN to checking for years...(couldnt afford it) ....and I still hope to find my TRUE Holy Grail (Gibson Les Paul Recording guitar '69 preferably--and the winning lottery ticket so I can actually BUY the damn thing) ) --- but the acquisition of other (low end) GIBBO relics has REALLY got me LOVING this stuff... the EB and the G3 are my first with real aged checking ---
The SONEX was refinished and has no checking ....and Peavey didnt use Nitro Cellulose....I dont think .....none of my Peaveys have checking .....
Its a great feeling ---Im liking it more than a NEW polished finish........

I actually kind of liked the Monza. The Monza Spyders were kind of cool.
How do ya like this checking on my '74 SG?
The arrow actually points to the repair joint from when I fixed a headstock break. The surrounding "cracks" are actually checking. They're actually more visible than the repair joint.

Yes. The Monza came with a 262 and it was an H body, same as the Vega. I liked putting 302 CID Chevrolets in them with the 7.5" Monza V8 differential. S-10 2WD axles fit and Buick Regal drums completed the swap.
Up front, I made tapered spacers to adapt S10 spindles and brakes. I used V8 Monza sway bars and custom wound springs by Coil Spring Specialists in St. Mary's Kansas.
I used a rare Borg-Warner T-55 5speed from a Buick Skyhawk where 1st was over to your leg and back, so only 2, 3, 4 & 5 were in the 'H' pattern.
Many years ago, I started a group on Yahoo called 'V8 H-Body. ' When I got out of the hobby, I gave the entire group to a member.
I checked a few years ago and it was still up and running.
Good looking bass!!!! Clever place to hide a battery!!!

Yes, I do. I also remember Oldsmobile used that same body style for something they called, the "442" of the same era. Most (if not all) self-respecting Oldsmobile 442 fans thought that was an abomination and should never, ever bear the "442" moniker.
A real Oldsmobile 442 was a uniquely wonderful muscle-car in the same distinguished entourage as the Chevrolet Chevelle SS, the Pontiac GTO, and the Buick GSX.
Turning it into a overgrown hatchback-looking thing was a bit of a gut-punch.
