I spent a couple Summers in Kitty Hawk in the mid-‘80’s, and a few vacations on Okracoke over the years since. The OBX is all about relaxing. There are a few “attractions” but nothing in the way of great dining or any real nightlife to speak of (unless something has changed dramatically in the decade since I have been there). Its the kind of place you go to forget about everything. If the World ended today they wouldn’t findout about it on the Outer Banks until next Tuesday, and that’s really what is great about the area.
What city are you staying in? Everything is very spread-out there.
Good points gball. Actually, we do go to do nothing and just be amongst friends and family. We love to cook, have cocktails, forget about stress and LAUGH!!
It's my wife's birthday that week too, so I am trying to do some research on a good restaurant for our one night out. I have no idea what to expect, but I do get the feeling as you said, it's all spaced out.
The town we're in is Corolla. It's gonna be a heck of a drive from Ct!![]()
Corolla!! Wow, that is way way up the peninsula. Over the Summers that I spent in Kitty Hawk I worked at a campground in Duck (it's long gone, was called Ocean Beach Campground), which is a town further south from Corolla. You are way out of the way up there, as much so as down on Okracoke Island. Very relaxing environment - the kind of place where you drive into town (Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills, Nags Head) to stock up on provisions then just kind of chill for the rest of the time you are there.
Not sure if you mapped it out yet, but to get to Corolla you still have to drive down into NC, cross the sound then drive north up the coast quite a way. You can't get there driving south through VA, so it adds quite a bit of travel distance/time to the trip. My drive was only from the DC area, so I don't envy your trip from CT!
Way to get me excited for the drive, lol.
I saw the route I have to take a few weeks ago. It's a haul man!! Arrrrggg!! This is my sister-in-law's doing.
I know I'll enjoy my time there, though. Our house is monstrous, looks really nice. All sorts of r+r amenities....including a pool table, which will be some great late night entertainment.
One thing I plan on doing, is a shrimp/crab boil....umum, can't wait for that.
