Our Gibsons have just taken a dump in value

They've been trying to get rid of 2015s and other stuff like 2013s, 2014s and some 2016s for ages, so with the new 2018s out now it's a good time to buy a NOS Gibson.

I quite like the less+ 2015 gold top with P90s for $1400.

ITS GOT A FLOYD! with no hole through the body???? what BLACK MAGIC and SORCERY is this!?!?!?!?!

& Dirty Fingers +

That must be a powerful pickup; not just a Dirty Fingers buut a Dirty Fingers PLUS...

BUT it needs no HOLE ? ---- AND many call the regular ol Floyds "finicky to set up" so I dont count that as a negative.

So its more like Floydsby --- like a Bigsby style ish thing

Now I just need to find a cheapo knock off copy

That's true, but if you try to install one on a Les Paul you may need to route a shallow channel underneath the spring to provide enough clearance for it. This is because of the arch of the top of the Les Paul.

Some Les Pauls need to be routed, some don't. It all depends on the arch of the top and the height you need to set the unit. My guess is that Lesters with a greater neck angle probably are less likely to need routing, as a steeper angle usually means the bridge will sit higher. But, take copious measurements!

But, it's something to think about with any arched-top guitar.

You definitely have a point, there!

What was I thinking!

BTW, here's a video of Floyd Rose, himself, installing one:

Thanks for bringing me back to reality guys.
I over reacted as I often do.
Dumping old unsold inventory at reduced prices makes sense.
Something is always better than nothing.

Congrats Chris--- I woulda bought one this a.m. but the thick neck is a deal breaker for me ...well wrist breaker to be exact --- hope its a good un!!

Thanks!

On a $399 project guitar I'm willing to risk it and/or take a sander to the neck...

DAMN IT!

The main reason I wanted this guitar was to swap out the pick up for a custom wound Guitar Force Erupter I won in a drawing.

The year was 1978. A hot new guitarist blazed onto the music scene with an innovative playing style and sound. It was a moment in rock history that signaled everything had changed. Folks, including myself, were awestruck by his technique and the shear power and pure rock tones that erupted from his guitar. He later coined his signature tone the "Brown Sound". The Erupter pickup captures the legendary tone of that time. This hot-rodded PAF-style pickup provides infinite sustain and the rich harmonics that he is known for. An A2 magnet delivers clarity and a smooth lively punch. Get ready for some 6-sting pyrotechnics. Specifications: Bridge DCR 9.1K Ohm, Magnet: Alnico 2. Available in 50mm spacing only, just like the original.

Now I'm reading about this Gibson 61' Humbucker that comes in the guitar I ordered and I'm afraid I might have to keep it in there???

The 1961 Humbucker
is part of the Burstbucker family, which features offset coils—of the two humbucker coils, one has more windings than the other. With typical Burstbuckers the slug coil has a few hundred more turns than the screw coil, so the slug coil sound tends to dominate; this gives a bit more of a single coil character. But even if the coils are matched (as with the ’57 Humbuckers), the slug coil dominates somewhat because it has more steel. With the 1961 Humbuckers, the wiring offset was reversed to give the screw coil more windings and provide a better balance between the two coils, where neither one dominates.

Also, guitars with the 1961 Humbuckers (LPJ14, LPM14, SGJ14, SGM, and Les Paul Peace) have “Zebra” coils with one black and one cream-colored coil. Zebra coils first appeared in the late ‘50s—and there’s a story behind this that has nothing to do with sound or performance. One day Gibson’s supplier ran out of black pigment; Gibson didn’t care because the pickups were covered, so natural cream coils were used as well as the black ones. Some guitars had Zebra coils, and some had two cream-colored ones, but no one really noticed until people started experimented by taking the covers off. Many liked the look, so Zebra coils became a new visual feature. (The Les Paul Peace has chrome covers, but you’ll still find the Zebra coils underneath.)

1961 is also when Gibson started using Alnico V magnets, which provide a higher output toward the high frequencies and greater touch sensitivity. Some people think Alnico V magnets are a bit too strong, but they’re great-sounding magnets and adaptable—you can always dial them back by moving a pickup further away from the strings, but you can’t ratchet up a pickup with Alnico II magnets. Regardless, what really determines a pickup’s sound has much more to do with pickup design than the magnet—and there’s a reason why the 1961 Humbuckers are considered classic pickups.

The Damn FLOYD ROSE tremelo system is ALMOST the same price as the CM guitar..........

I read this in the description

" features a plain maple top over a mahogany body along with a comfortably rounded maple neck that carries an oiled, thicker rosewood fingerboard for superb feel and added sustain."

SO now the THICKNESS of the fingerboard effects sustain??????? BUt by what %???? more than say an effect pedal or less? MORE than a Maple cap--or less? MORE than a 1 piece--2 piece----5 piece body?

Does it effect the guitars overall tone POSITIVELY in an offset manner as HORRIBLY as an unadjustable pick up????????

BOOM straight to poop chute in under 3 seconds ------your welcome
