Old Marshall Valvestates:

Bet you can't say the same for a Roland JC120 combo huh, Gball.

Never really spent that much time with one TBH. They do what they do really well but I have always needed amps with proper drive sounds, not that ridiculous excuse for distortion the JCs have in them. I know they are loud but I wonder how they would work in a rock band - pretty much all SS amps disappear in a loud rock setting in my experience, unless they are turned up to absurd volumes.

Don't know. Only one I ever had was the 1x10 combo. Guy I knew had a bigger 2x12 one and it also sounded really great but, again, forget about using one with a band unless you really don't want to be heard.

Speaking of JC120's VS's etc. Are either of these able to go through a DI, Sound system and thus negate the struggle to be heard scenario?

Prolly, sure, but I need to hear myself too and I don't like to rely on monitors for it - need to feel it and hear it to get the juices flowing, y'know?
This is all theoretical at this point though, since its now been about 3 years or so since my band folded and there don't seem to be any immediate prospects to get something going again.

BTW, I was telling my fiancee about my Californian guitar friends and how you had recently moved. How are the new digs working out for you?

F'ing great man, thanks for asking. San Diego has proven to be way beyond my expectations - this is just the most amazing place to live. And the weather is absurdly good all the time.

My wife used to live in Hawai'i, and she tells me living here is very much like living in Waikiki. That's a huge compliment, and having visited there a bunch of times I get what she means.

Dunno exactly. I had mine in the late '90s. It was cool sounding and surprisingly loud, but these things completely disappear in the mix if you try to use them in a band setting. Typical for SS.

Yep, that's the unfortunate caveat!!!!!

@gball - What chorus can emukate the onboard FX of those Bi-Chorus amps???

Awesome!!!!

Hellfire, I've got a ton invested in this 34 inch board already, what's another few hundred when you're this far down the pipe???

I hear that. My little injection-molded 6-spot Boss board quite ludicrously cost me something like $1300 to put together. I have another small 3-spot Boss board that set me back something like $500. For three pedals (granted though, one of those is an Angry Driver, which is two ODs in one box).

I loved it too, the few times I did missions work in Tijuana and passed through SD en route there, plus the couple times I visited some lady friends from back East and we'd go sight seeing.
