OK, i'm here!

OK, you should all know by now that a new month means a new subject for my jazz standard deep dive.
This time it's one of my personal favourites too!
The Way You Look Tonight (v1, rough)

D'Angelico Premier Mini DC XT > HX Stomp

'The Way You Look Tonight' is a Jerome Kern/Dorothy Fields song from the 1936 film 'Swing Time'.
Performed onscreen by Fred Astaire, it won the the Academy Award for Best Original Song that year.
Although i am quite familiar with the tune since we used to play it in the jazz duo, it was always the sax
that handled the melody and solo, so i was playing from memory and trying to work it out on the fly.
i think i did OK here considering that, LOL.

When the melancholy mood of Fall hits me, i love playing this classy Vernon Duke tune from 1934.
Autumn In New York

Benedetto 'Benny' > HX Stomp

Autumn in New York
Why does it seem so inviting?
Autumn in New York
It spells the thrill of first-nighting
Glittering crowds
And shimmering clouds
In canyons of steel
They're making me feel
I'm home

[Autumn in New York
The gleaming rooftops at sundown
Autumn in New York
It lifts you up when you're run down
Jaded roués
And gay divorcées
Who lunch at the Ritz
Will tell you that
it's
Divine

It's autumn in New York
That turns the slums into Mayfair
Autumn in New York
You'll need no castles in Spain
Lovers that bless the dark
On benches in Central Park
Greet autumn in New York;
It's good to live it again]

It's autumn in New York
That brings the promise of new love
Autumn in New York
Is often mingled with pain
Dreamers with empty hands
May sigh for exotic lands
It's autumn in New York
It's good to live it again

That is a stellar performance, and a damn fine recording to boot! Absolutely lovely.

Every year i do a special 'theme' album for All Hallow's Eve.
You'll find links to this year's release in my 'Tracks from the crate' thread
in Members Performances sub-forum.

This is great, but early AM? I remember playing at a Blues jam in the early afternoon, and saying to the bandleader: At this time of day, the nearest I can get to the Blues is 'mildly disgruntled '.
LOL at 'mildly disgruntled'!
4:24 AM is technically early morning, but if you haven't been to bed yet i suppose it could also count as very late too.
After hours ...
