Oh come on 20k?

Oh boy is right! But that one has regular humbuckers instead of the Firebird pickups, so going to sound different. Not that that's necessarily a bad thing, but one of the main reasons I dig my Firebird is that it doesn't sound like anything else, not even close, not even other Gibsons. It's definitely got it's own thing going on.

So a Firebird pickup is a P94?

I'm definitely interested in trying a Firebird.....Right now, I'm still trying to figure out how to add an EDS-1275 to my collection. I have looked at a few used ones, and I also found a set-neck kit that has the correct "open book" headstocks, so I am going to stay focused on this double neck project until completion....

This is one kit I have been eyeing...

No. It’s a type of mini-humbucker. But, their design is a little different from the type of mini-humbuckers found in guitars like the Les Paul Deluxe, or even my ‘74 SG.

That is why gball pointed out that these are “regular” humbuckers, as opposed to the minis more commonly seen in Firebirds.

Right. They are built differently from any other pickup:

The magnets are sideways, on edge, and mounted in the middle of the coils. The sound of them is really unique - nothing at all like a mini-hum. I'd say tone-wise it's a cross between a regular humbucker and a Tele single-coil. Lots of bite, but still plenty of girth in the tone, and will cut through the mix like a bandsaw through gov'ment cheese.

Cool info! I wonder if anybody has tried to clone these type of pickups?

Seems like all the major pickup builders have a version of the Firebird pickup. The only ones I have tried are Gibson, the alnicos in the Custom Shop and vintage guitars and the modern ceramics that they have been using since I think the '90's. Personally, I don't have any problem with them being ceramics - a good pickup is a good pickup, no matter what's under the cover. I've played too many crappy alnicos to believe magnet type really makes a difference that is greater than overall design.

20K No way but our band played a private show invitation only 10/7/17 for the last two years Ive been happy with my restored 1/1965 SG Standard for this show
I used my 1953 Esquire the 65 SG and took my 1960 Les Paul Standard out of storage. I think the new sound man was tweaked out on meth he overloaded my guitar amp microphone through the mix I placed the microphone 5' away from the speaker if I used my peddle board effects it would cut out through the mains and monitors
I played the real Burst no effects and it killed. At the end of the show we got booked for more private party's I said $1,000.00 we supply the sound system.
We survived hemp fest. And the requested songs were Jimmi Hendrix. I was sold on a new digital mixing board not now. I will stay with my analog system
the on-board effects on the digital boards sound like A$$. And it was this mixer we played the last two shows with I'm not impressed Midas PRO1-TP Tour Pack with Digital Mixer and Flight Case

Have a great day.
