...any experience?
I ask because I want a new nut on my SG. I got this 2019 SG new and wasn't particularly happy with it.
I didn't like the tuners, so I changed them to strip style 18:1 Kluson Supreme button tuners - I'm verry happy with the improvement.
I didn't like the bridge (because it was functionally broken: the adjustment screws were locked into the bridge and wouldn't move - I suspect that the shop did a set up without loosening the strings, and it was pretty unstable, moving around too much; just an average design, imho). so I bought a MojoAxe replacement (aesthetically the same) and some Faber locking studs - I'm very happy with the improvement.
I didn't like the pickups that much, so I bought some Seymour Duncan Antiquities. Buuuuuut, I've got used to the original pickups, so I haven't gotten around to putting the SDs in yet (although I reckon they'll sound great).
I didn't like the circuitboard electronics (no particular reason; I'm not claiming a sound difference...), so I bought a replacement to solder in. Buuuuut, I haven't got around to that yet - only been three years, so no rush.
I didn't like the thick lacquer; too thick. But, I'm getting used to that, and it just is what it is.
Lastly, I've never liked the nut or it's original cut. I did butcher it, so it doesn't bind and it plays fine, but it looks so ugly after my amateurish efforts. Thus, and I'm not claiming the guitar will be a Custom Shop guitar or an original 60s guitar (or sound like one) once it's done, but as I'm modding this guitar with a leaning towards 63/64 type specs (and that it what Gibson give a suggestive nod to with this guitar, imho), and I've never had a guitar with a nylon nut - I thought I'd try one.
(I'm buying the nut, not the guitar...)
I think it's a 63/64 "style" due to the colour, lightening bridge, short vibrola, etc.
FYI, below is the strip tuners. Do you like them? (For some reason, I've always liked two tuner styles above all others: 1) the Fender vintage style; 2) the Kluson button strip style.
