NVTTD!

Well done sir. Your description of the sound is spot-on, and I think that what you will find is they sound better and better the louder you get, plus if it's your sort of thing, T-Tops handle high gain better than any pickup I've ever used. They don't turn to mud no matter how loud or how much gain.

You've also reminded me that I really need to take some chrome polish to mine.

How can a frugal shopper on the used interwebs be sure they are GETTING a TRUE and REAL set of "T" Tops mr ball ????

Man, TBH, the only way I know of to be 100% sure is to buy an all-original guitar with them in it. There are just too many unscrupulous sellers on the internet for me personally to be comfortable. Possibly go through a trusted local dealer would be another way. I will say that Gahr's definitely check all the boxes from the pics I have seem him post.

Far too many sets of T-Tops were ripped out of guitars and replaced with stupid Super Distortions back in day, and many ended up in the landfill I suspect, so just as the supply of real '59 Les Pauls seems to be way, way more than they actually manufactured, now that T-Tops have become somewhat sought after they seem to be popping up all over the place.

poop---- I was hoping to score a cheap set I dont know that I have ever played actual T Tops---

My SG back in the 80s had the STUPID DISTORTIONS ----my Gibbos now have
Velvet Bricks (Bill LAwrence)
LP Recording pickups -- stacked single coil buckers I think
Mini Hums
P90's
and a dog ear P90

I got no plain old Gibbo humbuckers in anything .......................

I've been a hardcore Gibson player since 1971 two months back I had the flu so bad I didn't think I was going to pull through
I still have no idea why or how I found the Mayones Hydra Elite 7 string guitar custom shop one piece quilted maple top
Mahogany Sapele back Weinge neck Ebony finger board jumbo SS frets Seymour Duncan Nazgul bridge pickup 11k
I thought 11k would sound like mud but no if you take in consideration it's a 7 string guitar.
This new guitar kills every guitar I own sustain harmonics and tone. I could have got lucky with this guitar not sure.
I live in a rain-forest all my Gibson guitars go out of tune every song not the new 7 string or my old Fender Esquire.
Every Gibson guitar I have had issues the worst was a custom shop clone of my 1960 LPS the pickups didn't work
My best sounding pickups ever were in my 7/1957 Les Paul Gold top I had Jim Rolph clone them what a master.
They made my custom shop Gibson's sound real. My point I have not adjusted or modified anything on the new 7 string

I found the Mayones Hydra Elite
Those Hydra Elites are super modern and beautiful guitars. Pretty radical looking, too. At first I was kind of surprised that you got a guitar like this, but then I remembered you have some Parker Fly's.

There's something funny about the name Mayones… I keep wanting to pronounce it like "mayonnaise"! But seriously, after finally just checking out the Mayones website, mayones.com, now I remember this name from a few years back. Mayones was, and still is making that SG-looking archtop. I guess it's called the Virtuoso, now:
