I was finally able to collect my custom-made solid body U-bass today! Checky:

Solid swamp ash body

Olive wood top

Maple neck

Rosewood fretboard

Graphtech nut

Body and neck are reinforced with 2 mahogany stripes

Natural satin finish

Hipshot Ultralite tuners

22 frets

Silver Rumbler strings

Piezo pickup/rosewood bridge

Active EQ set, which is same kit that Kala use.

I'm pretty chuffed with it. We'll get to know each other a bit better tomorrow, spent a lot of today tweaking with settings, comparing with my other U-bass, recording sampels with and without backing and at different EQ settings... tomorrow I'll kick back and actually play a bit.

Can you explain the string construction please? What is the material and "gauge" if that is the proper term here?
 
Who's pleased with herself then?! That is one cool looking u-bass. And the sound is so solid it fills the entire bottom end of the sound completely. Very nice purchase.

These particular strings are some propriety polyurethane mix, which they call a "Nylgut" compound and includes calcium carbonate amongst the ingredients. Beyond that I don't know, and there's no mention of string gauges either. I think each particular material of string has its own gauge which you can't change; the pitch of the instrument comes from the strings.

That is interesting. The grain rises along the length of the bass so perfectly. The luthier certainly out-did him/her self. This one is a keeper!

Yup, single piezo and the controls are volume, treble and bass. To be honest I forgot which way round the bass and treble are, but the volume is the top one. The preamp is actually really hot and I find myself using the volume control way more than I would on a normal bass, which I'd usually just leave on full. The heat gives option to add a bit of grunt, which is something most U-basses are sorely lacking. This is a U-bass that would cut through the mix, even in a rock situation.

Lovely, and the bass is very nice too...

Those strings are freaking me out. Not sure if they are like flatwounds or like surgical elastic rubber stuff.

They're like flatwounds, although technically not wound on anything. They're also like playing strings made of balloon rubber.
 
And I was going to say your playing has gone from strength to strength since your earliest postings. Right in the pocket and no tentative notes any more - totally band-worthy.
 
Never heard of a U-Bass until now. Cool looking instrument for more creative mayhem. Strings are very interesting looking. Clip was laid back and funky... (y)
