Found a great deal on a DP100, been wanting to try the real deal. This is my 2nd name brand pickup.
The other is a Duncan Custom trembucker spaced bridge pickup currently in my Jackson Dinky. I Iike it a lot.
Snagged 2 used GE branded 6681 version 12ax7. Varian used for mobile communications with dc filament supply.
Both work well and sound great in my 5f1/2a tweed Champ build.

pickup went into AXL LP Jr. husk build I did a few years back.
Really like this guitar.

Like it a lot -for what I intend to mostly play with it.
This is purposed primarily to the late 70' / early 80's hard rock / metal tone neighborhood, i.e. Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, etc. songs I have been butchering of late. Good reason to lean some Kiss songs or riffs too, lol.

Impressed with the OD tone and especially the clarity, and it seems very responsive to picking dynamics.
The cleans are not bad, but a little sterile sounding, as I have read is common for hotter wind ceramic pickups.
Adding a little reverb or delay seems to make the cleans "more musical".

I have cheap guitars with cheap pickups.
I was going to try another $20. knock off - the Guitarmadness seller on ebay has a variety.
I have his 57 Special - a 57 Classic type - which I like. BUT - I have never had a real Gibson 57 Classic to compare.

I figure it is worth getting the real thing in this case.

I'm considering picking up a Duncan JB as well to compare.

I had the Duncan Designed version of it in my Jackson, and moved it to the Yamaha Pacifica I have since sold.
Sounded ok, less clarity, got muddy easier like some of my others.

I have a GFS Mean 90 in the Epi SG Jr that is pretty good, but have other P90's I prefer, possible home for a JB.

Very Impressed as have been recording with the Kramer..getting that lil bit of tude & they sit right on my Lp & SG ryhtym tone..looks like my new 1-2 punch into the DSL 50 for a run of new songs. just a great clear on all freq pickup.
Just won a Japan Burny RLG-85 Les Paul Custom that is nice &..not sure whats going in it..maybe dirty fingers & 59 or jb & 59 or might try the pups yanked from the Kramer..or the ones it comes with might be spot on. Has Duncan P rails bridge & Carvin C22J neck..& comes with stock pup's,. Really wanted a heavy LP custom for that chunky stuff. my buddy got all these Orville's the other day(5) and that led me to the Burny ..same deal just the full thickness LP & weight.. the orville's are nice !!oh the burney is spec'd, 59 profile A-1 neck. lots of tone in the thicker
