Going back to the dayz of youth..the warm stereo sounds on vinyl are still burned into my brain. My dad had me work when i was 12 all summer & he got me a Realistic rig, STA52 with turntable & Nova speakers. Met a guy on CL who had a "warehouse" of this stuff. I did research & paired the bottom heavy KLH with midrange clarity of the Polk. Got the EQ to just move things- EQ always woke up those older system. It is the sound was searching for..really curious to see how the home recordings sound. Plenty of volume & clarity for a whopping $100STA84 (2).jpgSTA84a (2).jpg

I remember getting the yearly catalog from my friends at Radio Shack.

Read it cover to cover, used to drool over all the geeky audio stuffs. The way that I used to do the Sears catalog for toys when I was a youngin".

I guess searching Amazon is the new Radio Shack catalog.... just not the same.

Sorry for the rant, as usual cool toys @BFT Gibson! Thanks for making me feel a hundred years old! LOL

But he sure did get all of winters firewood & the grass cut all summer. he was teaching the work hard -reward thing...here is link to the Shack catalogs...man when you look through them..can we all just go back ? i want a redo...lol

That was me exactly.

My first real stereo speakers were the Realistic 3 Ways, solid wood weighed a ton.

Dad bought me the receiver and I had to work off the speakers that summer! Sound familiar?

Man, used to wear that mag out with all my dreaming and scheming. We were very lucky to not have TOO much tech, just enough to spark our young curiosity.

Hey, don't forget to get a bunch of those free battery cards.

great memories !! the batteries..wow. It's interesting you mention the tech...this year most newer gear has gone & in recording the older stuff really works for me. I noticed an openess to the music soon as i sat between the speakers..that i do not hear in our cars...ear buds...been on studio monitors for so long working on music..forgot about the warmth..maybe even the mistakes or non time stretched fixing in the DAW

hey..just found out...am a GRANPOP again..grandchild # 6..a boy !! WOO HOO !!
