NPD - Mythical Overdrive

Well, I finally fpund my Klon Klone. First impressions are real good. Smoooooth OD

---------------
Low Clippers
1N34 - vintage clipping at lower gain settings, germanium diodes provide warm tube amp like breakup

High Clippers
OA128 - NOS German Telefunken ( silicon based ) clip at higher gain setting allowing for more headroom and an increased boost. Great compliment to the 1N34 or D9Es providing more versatility when you really want to cook the preamp section of your amp.

It's obvious that you sent out your feelers on this type of pedal at couple of other threads. An interesting part of the circuit of this type of pedal is the special buffer circuit that is part of its DNA. I haven't tried it with my 2 Klon Klones, but they are suppose to play nice before germanium based dirt pedals, and just stack well with other OD pedals.

A proper Klon should be able to do a strong transparent clean boost... use the Treble control for spice.

A proper Klon should be able to be used as a stand alone, mild to medium overdrive that sounds like a natural extension of the amps clean signal or the amp's natural distortion.

Agreed on all fronts. This pedal has the lower mid bump you would expect and it is very organic. As with any Klone, its strength seems to be in the low boost to mild dirt settings. It is so natural that it does not feel lke your pickups are constrained by clipping. That may be what the mean when they say it feels good "under your fingers", as I have often heard.

I am very happy. It is almost as if I did not know I was drinking gut rot whisky until I tried some single malt scotch. I may be getting spoiled!

Yes. For the most part, I was trying to decide 2 things:
1 - will it wind up being "just another OD"? - I have a lot
2 - should I make it myself as my next project or buy it? With all the effort that has gone into making the perfect Klon replica, it seemed unlikely that I would get close on my own

NIce, hope it fills the need and scratches the right tone-itch.

I was looking at those and the Wampler Tumnus as well as others as my first possible higher $$ pedal purchase.
But i got a great deal on an EXH Soul Food instead!

I have had a Klon for months now. I never bother with my other over drivers. I have three boards and the Klon goes on the board I'm using. You will love it Raym
