Now, What's He Up To?

Cool, Smitty got a new DVD player and sound surround.

Well...no...but interesting reply!

If I were to take a guess, it looks like the Schmittenheimer is making a mixer w/preamp.

Some of that answer is getting in the parking lot of the ballpark. But, it's a little more involved than that.

What ARE you up to sir....

Well, I'm not ready for a full reveal, yet. I need to compete connectivity and actually test this out, as the idea may be a dismal failure!

By the way....that silver box is an audio digital signal processor. It can do mixing, audio routing, acoustic echo cancellation, automatic gain control, level control, input and output muting, and filtering and EQ on every input. It also features GPIO control, ethernet control, USB control, RS-232 control, and can even make a telephone call. And, it has a built-in 20 watt audio amplifier. It handles 24-bit at 48 KHz AD and DA conversion. It can handle audio inputs ranging from mic level sources, to consumer level sources, to professional sources. All inputs and outputs are balanced, but it can handle unbalanced inputs and outputs, too.

Funny thing is, I used to spec these out for projects. They used to run nearly $3000.00. Since this has been superseded by a newer model, this model is super cheap, even though it's only one generation old. I got this one used for $15.00 (Fifteen dollars!) on ebay.

But, that still doesn't tell you what I'm doing!

I hope it doesn’t use a dial up connection when you power it up.

I won’t actually be using that feature!

HAHA I still remember how mad I was when I first was learning computers and had one of those AOL free trial internet cd's they used to send out.
I had a borrowed computer like a 386 or something a friend lent me in like 1999, I had dial up of course. THEN I sort of got AOL to work, BUT....
It really never did work, despite like 20 phone calls to AOL support. The " rest of the story" goes.

AOL tries to BILL me 14.95 or 19.95 after the month trial ended. I think they got the picture of my frustration at them threatening to sue me if I did not pay. They claimed that I showed "USAGE" I made it clear to them, THE ONLY USAGE I HAD WAS THE ATTEMPTS TO MAKE IT WORK when I called support and was following their directions. I HAD NO USAGE that benefited me in any way shape or form. I refused to pay, refused to ever recommend anything relating to AOL, recommending anyone ever try it or give them one red cent at the way they treated me.

Then if my memory serves me, I bought my own very first IBM Win 98 computer in 2000 and it came with Earthlink software for internet. I had no issues after that and later eventually got high speed internet. The world was my oyster after that.

I used to spec a lot of those Converge products five years ago. Since then, we've moved on to Biamp, Symetrix, and QSC. Nice score for $15. :D

Best deal I've ever hit on was a free set of RME Fireface UFX and ADI-8. :D

Sounds cool! We do a lot of Biamp, too.

I've actually briefly considered getting an AMX system for this. I've programmed AMX for nearly 20 years. I used to have the full ACE certification. But, incorporating that would be a little too much overkill. I'll just be using the GPIO control native to ClearOne. That's what the DB-25 connector is for in my pic above.

But, I'm getting ahead of myself now!
