I don’t know if it’s the heat sapping my will to live.
Or maybe I’m in a playing rut.

I haven’r picked up my guitars for more than 5 minutes. I pluck the strings a little and put it down.

I do feel like I’m kinda playing the same ole, same ole all the time.

Maybe I just need time away from it a little.

Anyone else get into funks like this?

Yep. Periodically in the 50 years I’ve been playing I seem to go thru stretches where I’m just not interested. Like you. I seem to be in one of those right now.

Got radio play back in 2021, it was on again after the accident derailed things, full studio in house, practiced up ready to play a lot of dates, decent shows. after recording so many songs..i looked back it was a time capsule of all the BS in my life in the writing..it drained me. i go back into the studio(now a hot rod parts warehouse lol) i got nothing..oh i have many ideas & songs..new lyrics..themes..chord progressions blah blah blah,,could crank another full themed cd out but just dont want to.

GOT burnout? Maybe it’s all that creativity you spent doing that, that’s making things seem…uninteresting. Just guessing.
You have been making some real progress with your playing lately. Dunno what to tell you…go write a song?

All the time my friend. Mine last a few months, go away for a few weeks and then return.

Might be burnout.
I’ve been doing a ton of lessons for a while now.
Maybe it’s as you said, just a little burnt out.

Try something completely different: Buy a Tele.

Maybe listen to some music you like but haven't heard in a while to inspire you.
Try Iron Maiden - Running Free. Gets me stoked every time!

I've been listening to a lot of Robin Trower lately. I have not learned any covers, but it inspires me to play the strat and just noodle phases or play with the fuzz tones and Uni-Vibe. I need to get the wah in the mix. Anyway, this is a break from the usual ton of power chord AC/DC, etc. songs I play / try to play, and the change of pace keeps me fresh.

I have never lost the daily desire to play but at times am just so fatigued / tired I either skip the session (rare) or just get in my skill drills and pack it in early (not so rare).

Hey man, everyone needs a break now and again. Sometimes you need to shelf it for a bit, and you'll come back with a new energy and perspective. Oh , also, I concur on the heat thing, it breaks me down too.

Was listening to some Herb Alpert and Glen Miller the other day. How’s that for a change of pace??

This was one of my dads favorites. I learned how to play the signature riffs on guitar. Sounds pretty modern with some overdrive, chorus and delay !

By default I kinda have to like Glenn Miller. I played trombone in school, as did both my boys, as does my eldest granddaughter...... who's taken it to a level the other three of us never did. She's really good. Be a senior in HS this fall. While her HS band is sort of a joke, She and her two year younger brother are members of the Chicago Youth Symphony. He plays bassoon and is very good as well. (both are Principle in there sections) This week both of them are in LA at Band Camp.... okay.... actually Orchestra Camp. He's Principle in his bassoon section, she got 2nd.... but sounds like she gonna get the solos so she has the more fun part. Couple nights ago the campsters got treated to a concert at The Hollywood Bowl conducted by John Williams himself. While playing the Stars Wars theme, Gustavo Dudamel came on stage and he and Williams sorta did a dueling bataan thing.... Ala Vader and Luke. Was not too familiar with Dudamel, but I'm told he's a Rock Star in the orchestra world and is conducting the orchestra my granddaughter is playing in. She's pretty pumped.

Nice family story !

Noticing a trend, for 3-4 years strait till 2021 it was all but 1 original song a week fully done.It was costly in studio, but very easy with a wife singer,
The on here was coached how to record very well & built the home studio..man did it escalate, was buying gear like crazy & each new piece inspired immediately a new song..used to post all those songs on here.
What a journey
geeze in 2020 even did "My Wall" double length style theme. 26 songs in 7 weeks, crazy dedicated & ideas would not stop. Got triple rec in middle of that & my drummer buddy & I did, UP, new band and all & did full 10 songs right in a row. It was flowing, Then members quit again,

well back to the trend.. now into cars again & noticing the same thing. I like the "work" the creating part. I build these cars & really not as interested in the driving it seems. Its the challenge of a blank canvas maybe & what can you make just with what ya got. the music i have a feeling it was becoming a 'job" to keep a band functioning. Dont do well when no one has passion or work ethic..the cars became the thing.. dont need help to see it to completion.

Now if someone was serious & came to me and said..lets do a brand new full CD from scratch & go to the studio & make a band & then promise to play out. Will write the check for it all lol

I know 1 way..100% way to fix...go buy a new MARSHALL !!! funny.. this thread & my buddy stopped by on the 4th & asked me to play bass (and drum & record a song with him)

Union Jack (2010 Black Flag clone) modded by my buddy into 1 celestion Type V in my home made cab,,,get this EPI Dot..stock pups...yeah man..its all about just having passion..we are all getting too uptight & pissed off in this world...MUSIC needs to FREE us !!
