Not only metal gurus like speed

Now imagine the opposite: 2000 people in a concert hall. Absolutely captivated. You can hear a needle falling, literally. On stage: Andres Segovia on classical guitar.

This reminds me…

It’s kind of funny, but a true story…

The very first solo piece I played in public was Bach’s Bourree for classical guitar. This must have been around 1988.

The funny thing is, I used my 1974 Gibson SG to play the piece because I had no other guitar and was still kind of naive at that point. I didn’t know anything about the association of the SG with rock, AC/DC or Black Sabbath. I had never even listened to them.

So, I just sat up on stage with my guitar and amp. I even held the guitar like a classical guitar and put my left foot up on a little stool. I played it with a perfectly clean tone on my little Peavey Studio Pro 40.

As I recall, I played the piece okay and didn’t make any mistakes, but didn’t quite understand some of the blank stares I got from some people!

For those unfamiliar with Bourree, this is a very nice performance of it. Definitely better than me!

That's a super cool story...

I was raised trained to be a concert master my father was first chair Bassoon Seattle Symphony 38 years
I started Violin at age 4 when most kids were playing with balls I was practicing Violin eight hours a day
Took up guitar in defiance of my classical training Andres Segovia showed me how to approach a note and make it count
I was back stage after Andres performance with the Symphony and asked him to show me how to play guitar like him
he said no then Henry Seagal the concert master said give the kid a chance so he did.
