I had one of these years ago. I always thought it sounded really good for a SS especially through my 2x12. Sold it of course, to get something else.
Saw one on Reverb last week for a couple hundred and thought Hmmmm. I was going to compare to the Katana, which sounds really good and is so versatile, I'm keeping that regardless. Figured the Studio Pro might make another good light practice amp.

Well, I haven't compared it yet, don't need ro. This thjng sounds stellar!! Even with the puny magnet Blue Marvel stock speaker. Low volumes has a nice floor thump, very warm and smooth and ballsy. Even the Vintage setting has good gain.
Will have to boost in loop.
Boy, I forgot how good this thing sounded.

You know what would be a cool test?

Put it inside an empty Marshall cabinet and play it live!

Just set some random Marshall head on the cabinet and turn it on and plug a cable into it to complete the visual ruse.

It would be totally hilarious if you started getting compliments on that "killer" tone!

I was and will ALWAYS be a fan of the Peavey Transtube series of amps, namely the silver face and the red stripe like these. They were insanely flexible and could cover anything from crystal cleans to down right nasty hi gain.

I had an Envoy 110 as the first amp I ever bought and my dad had the Bandit 112 with 112 Extension cab. It was more than capable of keeping up with a half stack 50w Marshall when i started off in a band. I even had the Envoy set up with an A/B Switch and mic'ed up for cleans when I switched to a single channel Marshall for a lil while.

Great score!

Kind of the opposite of what the guys in Skynyrd did (Marshall guts in Peavey cabs)

I do want to compare, just for fun, to the Katana and the Mrk V 35.... just cause.... and likely the BluGuitar pedal amp.

Prediction is it will humiliate the Katana, especially at high volume, and compare surprisingly favorably with the Mk, but be more sterile sounding (less harmonics and detail) and less dynamic. That pedal thing I have no experience with so can't guess.

Katana sounds really good. I have been impressed with it. However, long term memory of sounds is very poor so AB it shall be!
The BluGuitar has a really nice thump to it and extremely responsive EQ controls. 3 channels, I like it a lot.

I thought the Katana had some decent sounds at very low volume as a practice solution and on the lowest power setting. It may have even been one of the better practice amps I ever had because of the onboard effects, but it showed its fraudulence at anything above conversation volume.

Those old Peaveys, though, have a very muscular voice when you wind them up some, and with a drive pedal in front can be downright fierce.

Will have to look into the Blu thing.

I use my Katana at practices with drummer so certainly well above conversation . mIne is the 100 watt mark 2 set to 50, whether that changes anything I dunno.

I've been contemplating installing some Eminence Redcoat speakers into my 2x12 Peavey Transtube, to replace the stock Sheffields.
The Sheffields are a point of contention in a lot of the Peavey fans. Personally, I thought they were fine but some just don't dig them. I know from a technical point of view, they ( the Sheffield 1230 specifically) were based around Eminence Governors ( as Eminence actually made the Sheffield directly for Peavey). Sound wise, some compare them as the American answer to the British Celestion V30 in performance. I would argue that a bit as Sheffields were more treble ended vs the V30 Midrange focus. But still a fine speaker, especially in cleans. In hi gain, it was fine as long as you tinkered with the resonance and dynamic controls.
