Nice Bunch of Degenerates:

earthquake proof I assume?

Funny you mention that. The lift originally could be raised on dollys and moved around the garage. I never really used it that way, so it wasn’t bolted to the floor. About 6 or so year ago I was out in the garage, with all the garage doors open, doing a brake job on my wife’s Honda Pilot. The day before I had the Camaro up on the lift and when I do that I have to take 2 nuts and a stop plate off in the front of the lift since the Camaro sits low to the ground. I put them back on when I was done.

So, its windy outside as I’m doing the brake job. I heard a little creaking and I turn around I see the lift rocking ever so slightly. I’m thinking, damn, I didn’t know the wind could blow it that hard. Went back to working the brake job, and about 5 seconds later the creaking gets a little louder. I look at the lift and I can now see it rocking about a 1/2” with the vette raised all the way up. Now the brain, which is working in milliseconds, is going through, wtf could I have done yesterday removing those 2 nuts that could have ANYTHING to do with the lift becoming unstable. The lift is now rocking even more and my hearts racing and I’m still thinking, wtf could I have done yesterday. This all takes place in about 1 second. The lift is now moving pretty good, so with the heart a racing, I run over and start lowering the vette trying to reduce the lever arm of that weight up high. I’m freaking out with all the movement. I get the vette lower to about half way, my heart is racing.

The garage door from the house flys open and the wife says “did you feel that?”. My entire brain cycles are focused on how the hell could I have f-ed up the lift yesterday to make it start rocking like that from the wind.

Distracted, I turn and shout “FEEL WHAT!”, as I’m still lowering the vette. She says “THE EARTHQUAKE”. I go, what earthquake, as I honestly did not feel anything. So she says come look. The water in the pool in the back yard was splashing white caps. I slowly calmed down, as I realized I didn’t Intercourse up the lift.

The next weekend I rented a ¾” hammer drill from Hone Depot and bolted the lift to the garage floor.
