NGD - The Javamagic John Cipollina Tribute SG

What do you think that guitar is worth? Did you and Java talk about it?

To be perfectly honest, the thought never crossed my mind. I always thought that if I was to make a cash offer on the guitar, I should start at £5000.00 to not be insulting.

That guitar is probably a good example of it’s worth is what someone is willing to pay.

I suppose that I should come up with some sort of value for insurance purposes.

Yesterday was one year since Brian and I spent the day at Foyles Book Store, the guitar shops of Denmark Street, The Angel Pub, and a couple of other pubs. Then he sent me on my way with the Cipollina SG. It still seems surreal, and I absolutely love this guitar. It's gotten a few tune ups as it has acclimated itself to the New England weather, after spending the previous twelve years in Ireland and England. Now that it's getting dry again, I need to dress the fret ends again. Bought a hygrometer today to monitor the humidity in my cellar. Don't know why I didn't do that years ago.

Is it an ebony board?

I would like to request a nice close up of the control knobs and some history about them. please... :fingersx:

Yes, it's ebony.

They are Irish 5p coins. The side with the bull is the volume, and the side with the harp is tone.

Backstory, Quicksilver Messenger Service got their name because there were four Virgos in the band. Virgos are ruled by the planet Mercury, Quicksilver is another name for the element Mercury. On John Cipollina's guitar, there are Mercury dimes on the control knobs. The chance of Brian finding four silver Mercury dimes in Ireland in excellent condition was out of the question for the most part. Irish 5p coins are the same size of U.S. ten cent pieces, and Brian thought the the bull and the harp would be perfect in the irony of it's use, and that the guitar was made in Ireland. Pretty cool all the connections, eh?

I usually do only play that guitar, at home. But, I need to mix in others for two reasons. I own them, and they need to be played so they don't become neglected.

And, because I don't want it to end up looking like this guitar. I've played this one for thirty years and about a hundred gigs.
