NGD: Schecter C-1 Blackjack ATX

Installed Gotoh SG381-20-CK MG-T L3+R3 tuners today. I'm selling the original Schecter ones to our lead guitarist Josh for his Hellraiser, which has a few broken or damaged ones.

Stripped out the bridge to take it to Steve for the new Gotoh 510FB to be installed tomorrow. If you look closely you can see where I drilled the bridge ground wire hole and ran the bare wire down the side to the bottom of the bridge post insert hole. I later ran around the inside edge of the holes with a black sharpie in case some of the raw wood is visible when the new post inserts go in (they don't have a flange at the top to cover the edge). Also you might note some scunge from Josh's hand that I later cleaned off.

Well my upgrades are all done! Bare Knuckle Black Hawk pickups (AlNiCo V magnet in the neck , three AlNiCo V magnets in the bridge), BKP Jensen 0.022uF PIO capacitor, BKP CTS 550K volume pots, BKP CTS 550K push-pull tone pot, CRL 3-way Telecaster type selector switch, Fender Stratocaster selector switch knob, Gotoh VK-18 Telecaster style knobs, Gotoh SG381-20-CK MG-T tuners, fully rewired (with treble bleeds on both volume pots) and new bridge ground wire drilled for and installed by yours truly, and now a radiused and set up Gotoh 510FB bridge (complete with new post inserts).

All work done by myself, besides the bridge saddle notching/radiusing done by Steve Opitz at Ghostrider Guitars.

This one is having a custom 16-64 string set fitted and set up in Ab standard (Ab-Db-Gb-B-Eb-Ab), using the same strings and tuning as my friend Justin from Mournful Congregation to learn some of his solos from their records.

All done ... wow this tuning does require a delicate touch to sound right ... I will have to sit at the feet of my master to learn his secrets!

Steve said that adjusting the intonation on this bridge was quite fiddly due to the intonation screws being close to the pickup. He had to do most of the intonation with the gross intonation adjustment screws on either side ... the beauty of it though it is that it locks solid so once set for a tuning and string set it won't move ... worth paying Steve to endure that frustration instead of me, I think ... also I don't want to buy those nut files for just the small number of jobs I would do in a year.

This one has had a Schecter Apocalypse VI neck pickup and a Bare Knuckle ceramic Black Hawk bridge pickup in it for a little while, after I 'borrowed' the Bare Knuckle Impulse set for my Schecter PT Apocalypse earlier this year, but I have bought a second Impulse set to fit to it as nothing else sounds as good in it, especially in Ab tuning.

In the meantime I got it out a couple of nights ago and played it for a bit, and got this photo of it together with my new Mournful Congregation tattoo. As I think I stated above I tuned it down to Ab because that's what Mournful Congregation play in.

I've been out in the garage yesterday and installed the new Impulse pickup set, a new set of pickup surrounds, and reversed the Gotoh 510FB bridge so that I can intonate it with a screwdriver. A great success!
