NGD one they aren't making any more

Thanks JT n gball. That link to the cream Les Paul is sumn. If indeed the guitar is the cream finish, I suspect it is even rarer than Alpine White or TV Yellow ones.

Also, I am dying to remove the EMG's and to replace all the original parts ASAP. Brought home my soldering gear from dad's house today.

Solid move. EMGs definitely don't suit the character of the guitar, plus it'll look so much better with the original ones.

How do you know that the EMG's don't suit the character of the guitar? I think that's a subjective statement. Have you ever tried EMG pick ups at all?:hmmm::flame:

Yes, purely subjective, but I feel a beautifully preserved vintage piece such as this should have a look and voice that matches. If one must EMG there is a right and wrong way, and this is definitely not the right way.

And yes, I have tried them and hate them. Actually, I have hated every active pickup I have ever used, not just singling out EMGs.

I guess you hate spending money on 9 V batteries...no?:D

I am along the lines of Gball and Sp8ctre on the EMG's in the vintage SG. I definitely had full intentions of returning the original pickups to the guitar even before buying it. If I want to put EMG's in something, it will be something like putting it in a Superstrat or run of the mill LP or SG or something.

I really liked the T Tops I had in my original LP, I really like the T Tops in my Epi LP, and I bet I will like the Tarbacks in this SG. If not, y'all will hear about it.

I believe I will be trying to get the pots and wiring looking like this as was listed as a '69.

Later on today I will get some pictures of the pots and wiring as it came in the baggie when I bought the guitar.

Hopefully my attempt at loading my pic works.

If all goes as planned, I just have to figure out which pickup to wire to which volume pot and then to figure out the wires from pots to 3 way switch. Basically keep my brain remembering I am working from the rear and doing a tidy job soldering in the wires and not make a total mess of the original solder. It is already a bit rough from them detaching the old pups and removing the pots from the switch.
