NGD - LP Copy

I don't have a problem with the PCB - if the guitar still sounds ok then that's fine by me. I like not having to solder if I change pickups to another Gibson pickup.

&, yes, as JG says, RVA has become very good at this woodwork and metalwork stuff.

I was convinced the PCB did not alter tone. Then, I switched out my 2016 Gibson SG to a vintage, 50's style harness with .033uf/.015uf K40Y capacitors. It was a night and day difference, even though I stayed with the same pot rating....

I tried the PCB with three sets of genuine Gibson Pickups (a pair of new 57 Classics, a 2016 490R/490T combo and a 2017 490R/490T "Revised Specification" Models) with and without the PCB. I really like the solderless approach, but to my ear, the vintage harness had more body, more brilliance and much more tonal definition in how the controls react...

Dang I keep reading all these LP threads! I want another one dag nabbit! I kept going back & forth with SG's & LP's trying all kinds out. My SG is here to stay and was going to order the Green Agile 3100 with the ebony board but Gibson came out with a green 1 finally this year and was getting ready to buy 1 and the owner of the other 1/2 of my duplex popped in and offered me that 1/2 stupid cheap (needs remodeled) so the guitar gear monies is a tad tight right now as I got roofs & gutting of houses to do now :(

With the additional real estate, you can fit more gear!

Oh yeah I will,I now will have an office and a man cave! Doubling the size of my master bedroom and making one of the spare bedrooms into a walk in closet for her. She uses our spare bedroom to store all her clothes now.......

Changing the tone cap values is what caused the difference here, it moves the pickups resonant peak for starters. It will also effect the way it rolls off. When I changed out my circuit board & wired 50's style, with the same value caps & controls right up there was no difference at all. Of course, it changed the way the controls interacted when not right up but that is expected. Changing to a smaller value neck cap made a difference. Cheers

I am a believer now, Ivan...I got a drawer full of K40Y tone capacitors and 220k resistors...

HEre is what Hartley Peavey and his band of Missisppi Pirates did in the T-60 (the T-40 bass is basically the same)

just looking at it gives me a headache........but playing it makes all the headaches go away :)

Interesting scheme. The pickups hot lead is wired to the middle "variable" volume pot connection & the selector switch is wired to the top of the pots. The 0.005uf cap is more of a "mid" cap than bright cap (as used on early Marshall volume pots) & the tone pots are wired from the top of the volume pots to the junction of the two pickup coils. Never seen anything like this before. Peavey USA made some damn good equipment over the years, from guitars & basses, amps, both solid state & tube, as well as PA systems. During the 80's we used one of Peavey's PA systems that sounded good & was reliable. Cheers
