NGD - HH Affinity Strat - Green Sparkle

Calling Mr. G!!! Calling all tone addicts!

So, I took note of Mr. G's opinion. It was hard to discard after all, because it was honest and rather accurate! I have since taken some corrective measures. Be reminded that this is a 3 HB Strat, so it presents some challenges. I pulled the PG, routed the pup cavities deeper and added longer pup adjustment screws. I reinstalled everything and dropped those pups DOWN.

I have re-recorded the same clips, which were

Neck
Neck split
Neck / Middle
Neck split / Middle split
Neck / Middle split
Middle / Bridge
Middle split / Bridge
Bridge
Bridge split

Please provide the same honesty displayed the first time and let me know what you think.

Big improvement; much more musical. I still feel that the middle and bridge (edit!) pickups sound a tad harsh when split (I'd be tempted to roll the tone down and see if they mellow out), but they both sound fine when bucking, and the neck pickup sounds good split or bucking.

Well done, RVA - the geetar is now sounding nearly as good as it looks. :dood:

Thanks. A big part of these projects is doing something different, which would be the only way to describe a 3 HB strat! This will find its place in the arsenal of axes.

Great work. &, I remember those days, not so long ago, when changing a set of tuners was new to you! Once you got the confidence to go at the fretboard was when you changed up to a different level, imho...

Can I send you my Rosewood Telecaster Project and let you finish it for me??? Then I can keep it instead of getting rid of a nice guitar...

I would be too afraid that I would never send it back! That one has tempted me. But if you are serious, I would work on that for you with pleasure and honor.

Yup, send it to RVA to finish and he can send it to me to inspect for quality control. Once I have assured that it meets my standards, I'll let you have it back :H5:

Thats a great green color.
Thanks. I really dig these knobs too - I need to get more. The pic makes it looks like a blemish on the upper rear, but that is a pedal light reflection. It freaked me out for a second.

I saw that too...I'm glad it's just the lighting!

In its place, a Bill Lawrence (Bill-n-Becky) L45S

Much much much much better; night and day - all the positions sound great, to my ears, now. Excellent work. I'd be very happy leaving that guitar exactly as is, and it'll hold it's own against pricey Mexican/US Fenders.

Now, I'm gonna open a can of worms here: Squiers are much closer to US Fenders than Epis are to US Gibsons - &, I'm talking about base construction here. Thus, I don't think a modded Epi compares well with a low end Gibson (as you know, I had a very heavily modded G310 and now have a Gibson SG special, and the Gibson is very much better due to the neck, poly finish, other(?) being limiting factors, imho). But, a modded Squier does compare very well with a Mexican/US Fender.

I'll go further, $350 for a nice Squier is very decent when compared to $1500 for a US 'professional' - the lowest US made Fender. Whereas a $350 Epi, say a 400pro is only $250 away from an SG faded. I'd suggest an SG faded is an equal to a US professional strat. & folks say that Gibson have lost the plot???
