NGD: Gibson SG Special Aged Cherry with Short Vibrola.

It looks fantastic in that colour. &, the bridge is nicer than the lightening bolt - it looks angled, so are we talking a 61/62 here? Is that the original or a MojoAxe bridge you put on?

It's a '62, with a five digit serial number. The bridge is aftermarket, but not Mojoaxe. I have no idea of it's origin. Once I get my workshop rebuilt, I'll probably get the Mojoaxe bridge and finally cut a new nut for it, and do a proper set up. I've been putting it off for way too long.

*edit* We found out as the black paint was being stripped, that it was originally Polaris White. Inside of the control cavity is still the original finish from Gibson.

^ the 61/62s are so nice (juniors and specials), and yours just has all the right bits. I know from my junior in the pic (left) that even the uncompensated angled bridge of the 61 fame can get as close to intonation on a good guitar as the lightening bolt (which everyone always seems to angle to improve intonation, so they might have been better leaving the angle and a bit of 'lightening intonation'). The MojoAxe version, angled, where they've shaped the bridge (quite subtly) seems like that kinda solution, but with a nicer look.

Anyways John, how is your 2019 special coming along? Have you sorted it out yet? Other than the colour and trem, I'm pretty sure my guitar is exactly the same as the 2019 specials in PB and SB.

Thanks, the Special is sitting at my mum's house. It was delivered yesterday. I had it shipped there because I'm in Chicago for training. I'll be heading home tomorrow. I'll probably go grab the guitar Sunday morning.

I do like the way they blended just enough of a ridge in the MojoAxe bridge to get intonation a bit more accurate. You wouldn't even notice it if you didn't know it was there. The lightning bolt bridges are nice for being able to carve a bit of a saddle into them, something that you can not do with the angled tailpiece. But, you don't get the look of the angled tailpiece, which is something I find more appealing.

I love my special, but when I look at the PB one I'm loving that too - such a cool look for a special. I hope yours bonds with you, I reckon it will. I'll be interested to know what you think about the neck (which I reckon will be the same on all 2019 specials, give or take), it's certainly slim taper but with a bit more roundness to it, especially close to the nut, and with quite a change around the 4th/5th fret - I like it. Good luck with yours; I hope she's easier to take pictures of than this one! :D
