NGD - Bone's 1996 SG '61 Reissue

This guitar came unexpected. In 2015, at the other forum place, I mentioned a neighbor who had an SG in his basement, but it was not for sale. It had belonged to his freind, nicknamed Bone, who played out a lot and loved this guitar. He died too young and his father gave the guitar to my neighbor, Bone's college buddy, as a keepsake. My neighbor, who does not play, held it for many years, at least a decade, and finally decided it deserved to be played. On Saturday, he asked me if I wanted to buy it. He gave me an incredible price for the guitar alone, but also gave me Bone's Fender Princeton Plus amp and his strap.

The guitar needed a serious cleaning, but other than that, it is stellar. It was nearly in tune out of the case. The neck is straight and the finish only has pick marks where they belong to show that it was played with heart. It appears that it was re-fretted at one point. My neighbor told me he had something "special" done to make it play great at one of the Sam Ash stores local to my home. They have a Plek machine, and given how well it plays with low action, I surmise this may have been done at the time of the re-fret. I also found a pick from our sponsor All Music in the case!

So on this new guitar day, a toast to Bone, and his fabulous SG. May his spirit flow through the strings and may I do him justice when I play.

If it is a re-fret, they did the nibs really well! That looks almost custom shop on the fret ends.
....and WOW! A bonus Princeton!

Edit: oh, I see now...an early 61 reissue...still nice fret ends!

THE INFAMOUS SG IN THE BASEMENT!!!!????? I Thought it was a MYTH --- a LEGEND---

WOW--- well Ill be damned YOU DID GET IT AFTER ALL!!!

no BONES about it you got a GREAT PACKAGE there RVA! --- well DONE man .....

oh and happy early birthday ;)

That's a really nice guitar.
With a good backstory too.
Congratulations.
Enjoy it.

What with the history of it and all if it were me I would not,
I say again, NOT modify it in any way.

...and if it isn't your cup of tea...
Standing offer.
$1,200.00 and a promise to take good care of it.

Thanks! This will not be modified in any way except for strap locks. Those small round vintage buttons are not safe. I will even leave the poker chip!!

Thanks. I have one incoming on Friday, and then I am on the gear wagon!
BUWAHAHHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHHAHHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAH............

Perhaps we can support one another--- when you want to buy something call me and I will tell you NO and you do the same for me.......
