Hey!

For the first time in several years, I´ve gone guitar shopping. And of course, it had to be yet another SG...

The thing is, life has been really bad lately.

On July 23. my wife died. She'd been battling cancer for about six years, and after having undergone pretty much continuous treatment for the last two and a half years, the doctors finally ran out of options. We had known the day would come for several years, but didn't know when. It's been a rough ride, to put it mildly, but in the end I'm glad it happened the way it did. She was in relatively good shape all the way until about the last month of her life. at times she had been in a lot of pain, but the doctors were mostly able to give her the treatment she needed to be able to live pain free. Towards the end she deteriorated very quickly, and I',m glad she didn't have to suffer long.

Our two boys (17 and 20) have been fantastic through it all, and we have grown very close over the last few weeks. We have filled the house with music and have had lots of good friends and family come visit us. Naturally we are devastated, but it has also made us more aware of how much we love and need each other.

ANYWAY, one of the things we have realized fully is that life is short, and that we sometimes need to treat ourselves to nice things. We don't have a whole lot of money, but er are financially pretty secure, even with the loss of my wife's income, and after having talked for a while about our new financial situation, we decided we could all get a few things that we have really wanted for a while. The 20 year-old has a relatively well paid job and got himself some upgrades to his motorbike, a very nice headset and and some nice clothes, andthe 17 year-old bought a really good double bass pedal and some new cymbals for his drum kit. I have upgraded my stereo system.

And then... This weekend we celebrated one of my brothers in law's 60th birthday. We travelled from Bergen to Stavanger, where two of my sisters live, and my drummer kid really wanted to visit a rather nice music store a little outside of town. We went there, just to look at stuff, naturally. Of course, the first thing I see is this sparkling burgundy 2020 Gibson SG Special. It was sold as used, and therefore heavily discounted, but the sales guy told me it had only been played a couple of times. The protective plastic film was still covering the pickguard, and there wasn't a single scratch or ding on it. I had to try it... I played it through a Fender Super Reverb, and it felt and sounded glorious. Needles to say, it left the store with me. A "proper" Special was the only classic SG model missing in my collection, so finding this one made me very happy. I haven't had the time to take a lot of pics yet, but I promise to post some more after a while.

I haven't played with a band for several years, but this week we are actually getting together again to jam and have some fun. It will be a most welcome distraction.

Here it is! The stock bridge is in the case. I will probably put it on and check out how it works. If the intonation is ok, I'll leave it on, just because I like the authenticity of it.

First, and foremost, my deepest condolences to you and your family.
Second, it is great to read/hear from you, and I’m glad that you are well.
Third, congratulations on the fine looking SG Special. Certainly a great find, and addition to any toolset.

I'm very sorry to hear about your wife passing away. It is nice to see you back again. I was looking at some of your old "Beer and Guitar" posts recently and hoped you were doing well.

It's nice to see that you have the sister guitar to my 2019 SG Special. Yes, a proper Special should have P-90s. Good luck with jamming.

I put a love emoji when I saw the SG , but after reading of your loss I am sad.
I understand how difficult the battle is and fear I might end up in a similar situation.
Enjoy your new guitar, I am sorry for your loss.

Gahr, my dear brother… I vaguely remember you posting about your wife’s health issues a while back. May your lovely wife rest in peace. It also seems, not surprisingly, that you and your family are accepting this devastating situation with dignity, grace, and love. To you and your family, y’all have my most sincere condolences.

Big congrats on a very sharp looking SG… . I’ve always liked that color and finish with the black P90’s. It’ll be interesting to know what you decide on the bridge.
