Quick update, thought worth a share.

I did a few flips and need one more flip yet but jumped the shark (bank account borrow lol) and picked this up on way to Niagara week end away.

Rolled Fret board, 54 pickups, two point trem, no case but that’s why was cheap :)

I think I like this one

Did you buy a 61' SG yet?

Nah, I kind of talked myself out of it. It's an amazing guitar (still there) but not so much better than my SG Standard to justify the tariff. I'm not excluding a moment of weakness - the shop is in my neighborhood after all - but that's a lot of scratch for an incremental gain. Your new SG made the urge to snag it more intense but so far I've stayed chaste.

I'll tell you something...they are not worth the near $3500 difference from the Standard. Being down from my surgery for months to come I returned mine Saturday.

I'm exploring the used market instead...found a Green SG Elegant on Reverb for $3500 and the guy may get down to $3000. Also looking real hard at an LSL Tele Type.

That was a really gorgeous guitar but I think the Custom Shop is smoking a little crack with the prices they've been asking lately. Great guitars, but not so much better than the USA stuff to justify the price and to me they are arguably not better at all when you factor all things in. I've owned a few Custom Shop guitars in my time and they are all gone, but a couple of my non-vintage Gibson USA's are absolute keepers and rival anything the Custom Shop is putting out. The silliness of things like hide glue and bevels on a piece of plastic have nothing to do with how it plays or sounds and the weird obsession with recreating the past is kind of a turnoff anyway. I remember when the Custom Shop was always looking forward and building things that were new and unique, now they are just mired in their own history and an obsession with making things that pretend to be old.

The SG I was into was a great sounding and playing guitar, but in the end I really despise the idea of paying extra to have some dude jack it up with fake wear that wasn't earned by time or toil.
