NGD 2003 Gibson ES135

Thanks JT and "everyone" for your support and well wishes. Short of one flaw Mdub knows about, the guitar shows no other issues I have found so far.

Congrats on your new guitar...

Even though I've never have played any Gibson hollow bodies or semi-hollows, I still think those type of guitars are real cool. I've definitely seen and heard some good players make beautiful music with those.

So, what is this flaw that your referring to?

How does it play and sound? How does it stack up to "brownie" and "old black" ? How are the 57's? Do they meet the expectations some of us have set for them?

It sounds ok so far. I have not played it at volume yet due to us being in the midst of caring for my dad in nursing home, prepping my girlfriend's house for winter/Christmas, moving her now married daughter's possessions to her new house, and actually prepping contracts for my upcoming remodeling jobs the next few weeks.

Having said that, it sounds and feels really good to play at the low volumes I have tested it at.

I managed to fire up my 135 today a bit after watching Dallas kill the Redskins and started working on one of my favorite Rush songs, Xanadu.

I was pleased how the 135 sounded on the parts of the song I played. Now I am seeing this bass and moog demo and it has me wanting to learn Geddy's bass parts too. This guy in the demo is really good.

We are still waiting on you Chili on doing a YouTube video of you playing you"re new axe. Don't worry about playing good or not. You don't have to play like Malmsteen or Van Halen...maybe some Teddy Nugent. Go for it little BIG buddy!

WFO. Brake when you see Jesus. Oh wait, that is motorcycles. N'mind. :p
Mdub, I'm serious. Other times when I have bought used guitars and even 1 new Telecaster, I had to replace pots because they'd cut out or spike in level as they were adjusted. De- oxit didn't help either.

Ok Mdub, I got my little Princeton Chorus amp out and plugged in the ES and turned both volume knobs up to 10. The neck pup is definitely louder.

Also while adjusting tones and various combos of mixes with both pickups, then neck alone and bridge alone, I really like the bell like note blooms as I strum chords and play slow arpeggios. This guitar is a winner.

Since both pickups are the same the neck will indeed be louder when adjusted similarly.

I set the bridge pickup so that I like it, then I dial the neck pickup (usually down) to match the bridge. I don't mind the neck pickup being a little bit louder, but I like the 2 pickups to be usable with the same amp setting. The 57 Classic pair balances nicely on my 335.

The Princeton sounds like a perfect amp for the 135!

Mdub. The Princeton Chorus is not the run of the mill one either. I decided to try 2 Weber vintage 10 inch speakers in it. They sound sweet.
