NG Project!

I like that Milwaukee M12 Kit. A little pricy, but probably worth it. What do you know about the cost of replacement or extra pads?
Looks like $25 for a 5 piece replacement set

It is a bit pricey, but it has a lot of potential applications just as a polisher (car, guitar, furniture) and then it appears to also be a worthy grinder. Anyway, Milwaukee products are built to last

So, I had a new advenure in shipping issues. You know that thing where plastic and nitro don't mix? My builder doesn't. He shrunk wrapped the guitar, which made the finish take on the wrinkles of the wrap. The good news...my buffer works well and I can work well with it. anyway, this body is re-buffed and the neck is on.

The neck needed to be shaped to the pocket. I did not do a great job, but not bad for my first go and using a dremel

Overall, so far so good

Right, I'm late to the party, but here's my tuppence worth:

Firstly, great thread.

Secondly, I didn't like the look of those necks at all, but you've done great work with them, RVA.

Next, once the builder had not disclosed the problems with the first body (and the second), I would never have worked with him; this time or at any point in the future. It just shows a poor mindset on his part, and that seems to have been displayed several times; he makes persistent errors which damage your build.

Next, the bodies are really nice, but two separate people at separate places making two parts that'll come together later was always gonna cause issues, and we see that in the pics above - it looks like the neck was made by a different person than the body.

There's a lot of excellent work here (from RVA) and some decent work/average work (from the body builder). The result is really nice and unique, but not as good as it would have been if RVA had controlled the entire process, imho.

RVA, you are becoming very good at this, so don't trust others or accept their processes - you take control and be more demanding; it's you're money, and as far I can see, you are the expert here. So, yeah, lovely guitars and some lovely workmanship, but it could have been absolutely amazing if you had just been a tougher project manager, imho. Sorry if this sounds negative, I don't mean it to be because you'll end up with two really nice guitars, and you're consistently showing great skills.

:D

Thank you. And I agree that this guy is a bone head. First, he failed to drill a hole for the bridge ground. I have done that now.

Far worse, this moron drilled the wrap around holes at 73.25mm - tune--o-matic spacing!! Looks like I need a stop bar and will be drilling some more holes! Ugh!

The guitar is looking really good...once both are completed it will be "Ray Day"!:dood: Hey, did you check if the neck is snug enough to hold the body without the screws when picking it up? I put a sideways shim in the neck pocket of my American Std. Strat for a real tight neck to body fit and the neck fits in so tight that it holds the guitar body without bolt screws. You'll get a better sound.

Nope ny work is not that precise sind I do not have te told it the experince. It does sit right with scres though. If it does not play well, I will get new necks.

I sanded down the top on this. I did not feel it necessary to make it all bare wood, and inted to give it a light coat of Minwax Golden Pine stain, which I will buy tomorrow. If anyone thinks I need to eradicate all the prior stain, please say so. I am going on instinct.

Actually, I really like the patterns that you’ve sanded away.

Taking all the old stain out will give you a clean base. But, depending what you do over what you have now might be a spectacularly nice ending.

I very much like the 2018 LP studio smokeburst thingy, maybe you'll end up with something similar?
