New Speaker Day!

I got the Celestiin Creamback Neo. It's light!

Already installed it in the little combo and the first impression sais it wasn't worth the money. I can't A/B it with the 70/80 but there is nothing that strikes me as very different. The amp still sounds better through the Celestion Gold in the other cabinet.

The cabinet could of course have something to do with it. The Gold and the 70/80 are both played in, the Creamback is not, that could also make a difference.

Maybe I should build a new cabinet for the amp? I have a couple of old Ikea shelces in the garage, made from 12mm solid fir. They're heavy as hell but would make for a fine cab.

Or.. Do what eSGEe sais :D

I was listening to cab clips on the orange site the other day and heard the neo cream back in their 212 vertical open back. It sounded really different than any of their other GB built cabs which all have vintage 30s. I'm not going to pass judgment as this was on a phone. It was just really different.

I'm using Jensen Neodymium's...fabulous.

I've tried the Neodymium Creamback and found that the EQ settings needed to be completely reworked from my previous settings with the old Alnico speakers.

You will need to alter your EQ settings with the Neo's...

Here's what I noticed with the Jensen Neodymium's - basically, they would handle much more low end without getting muddy and the high frequency response allowed me to roll back the highs for a fuller, rounder sound.

I've only played it for 20 minutes (cranked though) so it's too soon to pass judgement. The amp may need new power tubes, I'll have to look inte it. It sounds a bit iffy at top volume, it might be a tube or it might be the cabinet. It sounds good otherwise but there seems to be a fuller, rounder sound with the Celestion Gold.

Yes, I always play around with the EQ depending on what guitar I use and what tone I'm after.

Tone is subjective. I like the Neodymium Jensens and thus far, they haven't blown up.

My standard speaker break in consists of 24 hours of Depeche Mode at medium volume.

My wife went to see Depeche Mode a couple of years ago with her friend, because her friend really wanted to see them. My said she was blown away by what a good show they put on, and how heavy the guitar sounds were. The main guy played a Firebird all night. She said it was nothing like their recordings.

Most of the time, your producer will engineer the tone of the song. I've had countless events where a producer demanded a super-thin Telecaster tone on a song because that's what he heard in his head...but when the band played it live, it was totally different.

I saw them in like ‘88 or ‘89 because a GF wanted too.
I was very impressed with their live show and would definitely see them again given the chance.

Only in Depeche Mode's case it was a synthesizer.

Exactly my point. Most likely that was a producer's call to use synth on that song.

I can't watch a lot of bands, even those that many find interesting. After seeing AC/DC in 1978, Def Leppard at their peak in 1983 and then Motorhead, all other bands just bore me.

I would go see Whiskey Myers though...

I saw Def Leppard in '83. My first rock concert. They played so loud that my ears rang for 3 days afterward.
