New Solo Music Project:

So, I feel that the time has come to abandon all my tone chasing and what not, and instead focus on recording again.

After giving this a lot of thought, I am still quite uncertain of how its going to go.

My oldest Son got my dedicated recording PC set up with Audacity. I had previously used Cool Edit Pro and liked it, so this was a fairly simple platform that is also user friendly.

I just ordered a USB interface/pre-amp, a good vocal Mic, cables, stand, pop filters, etc., so from a hardware standpoint, everything is ready.

I plan on starting out with an instrumental, just to see what develops, and to get a feel for the equipment.

I really don't have any preconceived notions as to how the project will go, or into what genre it will fit, and that's troubling me a bit, as I have always written with a specific genre target in mind.

I've been pondering cover art and the like. Most producers will tell you that the cover art should hint at the music's genre, but then again, I'm not sure this rule is absolute in nature.

I also struggled with band names, as I dislike my name being in the title. Every idea for a name that I came up with is already being used in some form or another.

Of course, the olde family name, Von Herndon is available, and its already trademarked, but I almost hate to think I would be viewed as a Van Halen disciple, so again things get complicated it would seem.

At any rate, I have searched for an album name for this musical project and again found so many titles already in use.

My favorite was "Chasing The Dragon," but that's been used numerous times, including a metal band from the 1980's. So, I suppose the search will go on...

I am, however, excited that my equipment has fallen into place like it has of late. The custom doubleneck, tubes, speakers, attenuator, volume pedal, even string gauge and its influence on my tone...all of these are pieces to the sonic puzzle.

I really have to struggle to stay focused and divide my time evenly. I become possessed by music projects in general and its easy for me to get lost in a project and forget about everything and everyone else.

Its captivating to be excited and fearful all at the same time....

I think getting your gear in order as you have, and your searching for the right band and fit has led to this. It makes sense this is the next step in your musical journey. Good luck.

PS, "Journey" has been taken.

LOL!!!

True!!! "Journey To Hell" might still be available though???? "-)

Recording yourself helps you play guitar better in my opinion. You can hear the mistakes you make or your playing style and try to add or improve it. And recording yourself is a lot of fun to do if you treat it that way.

Gotta agree there.
Mhmm, maybe its wise do simply start recording a bit. Let Your thoughts fly...

A propos journey:
Die Geschichte vom fliegenden Robert

I got a couple of instrumental ideas....original stuff....But, my first effort is going to be finishing up my own version of Hotel California. I play and sing this in Am, so we already laid down the drum and bass tracks at a colleague's studio and the file is Audacity ready. All I need to do is add the guitar parts and do all the lead and backing vocals.

Das ist eh eine äußerst sportliche Art zu fliegen. Aber inzwischen hat man die Idee ja weiterentwickelt, nennt sich Gleitschirm. (But please don't start from the Ulmer Münster, Germany's highest church spire. Some time a go some tailor tried to learn to fly there with a similar apparatus...)

Pink Floyd's Learning to Fly comes to mind... :-)
