Gibson is releasing a new SG Supreme Koa. It is a Sweetwater exclusive only and will be released in October. They are taking pre orders now and I have ordered me one. I have already purchased two of the new Gibson Supreme's this year. One is wine red and the other an ebony 3 pickup model which is a Gibson exclusive only. When I saw the release of the Koa model, I had to add it to my Supreme arsenal. This is the link:

Cool, interesting looking guitar. Sugerbuckers,,one of the few never tried..somehow am pulling everything off recently on a 14 SGJ with 61 pickups. Need an explorer real quick to fit under it.

I will be curious to see how the Sugarbuckers sound. Sweetwater collaborated with Jared Brandon at Gibson on this pickup design exclusively for this guitar. I have Burstbucker Pro's and Pro+'s on my two other SG Supreme's with 490's on my SG Special and Dirty Fingers on my SG 70's Tribute. I like them all.
Interesting placement of the strap button on the horn for a SG.
They place it on the horn for all the Gibson SG Supreme guitars and also on the Tony Iommi SG. I wasn't sure how I would like it when I bought my other SG Supreme's but now that I have owned one for a while, I like it better. It also solves the neck dive that is common to many SG's.

Koa has really good sustain, balls in the lower mid frequency, more than mahogany.

Looks cool but needs a pickguard. "Sugarbucker" just another "PAF" style boring old-school, low-output pickup. $4K for this?

Yawn.
I already have two of the SG Supreme guitars and they are the best playing SG's or maybe any guitar I have ever owned. The bodies are half thickness mahogany and half thickness maple. The burstbucker pro and pro+ pickups sound great too. Compound radius fretboard. I did a Warmoth build 6 years ago but I put the strap button further down the horn.

I wasn't sure how I would like the horn button placement, but I like it better than the original now that I've had a Supreme for a few months. It cures the neck drop that is common on many SG's. Comfortable on the neck also. They also do this on the Tony Iommi SG. I like the cable jack location on these better too. These SG's are a little thicker than the usual SG's. Half thickness mahogany, half thickness maple and weigh a little over 8 pounds.

I agree. I prefer the look of an SG with the pick guard. I like the small one better than the batwing pick guard.

I feel the same way about Les Pauls. Even if they have highly figured tops, I prefer them with the pickguard, as well.
