New Amp Day

RVA

Ambassador
A Phaez amp, same builder as That Bastard's recent amp addition. Looking forward to getting it home

From the Reverb ad

The OD channel is a "D-style" thick overdrive with a pull pot on on Gain 2 to give you more of a hot-rodded British tone. Super touch sensitive and feels great to play. The high headroom clean channel is great for pedals. Randy added a mid-control for the clean channel on the rear panel for more tweakability. Great master volume control let's you tame the 80 watts at lower volumes.

Wow, this has crystal cleans on the clean channel. It does not seem like it will ever breakup. Not pictured above, and added for the first owner, there is a mid knob in the back. At present I have the nod knob on both channels almost completely scooped.

In the OD section, the availability of 2 gain stages allow for a softer clean at a very respectable volume, with the "hair" beging at 10:30 for each gain knob, and stacked when both pass the point. According to Phaez, the "M" in "Pull M" on the gain 2 pot stands for "Marshall", and changes the character of that stage, so the amp has more like 1 + 1 or 1a gain stages. The master and the channel volume are very effective and you can achive considerable volume with low gain. It is for reasons such as this that I am glad I have 80W at my disposal.

This amp is VERY QUIET, with almost no hum, even on the OD channel. It took my Baltic Blue fuzz (the one that has been inspiring the squeal on other amps) at a high gain setting without any feedback, and I was sitting in front of the amp. It takes the reverb and echo with gain without sounding like you your playing in a tunnel.

I need time with this amp, but results thus far are very pleasing!

Congrats Ray!
I hope this is what you’re looking for!
My clean channel doesn’t really break up much either...tons of headroom. It really does beautiful things with light overdrive pedals out front.
My gain channel starts to get some typical high gain hiss around 2:30 on the gain knob...by that point I’m well in to cranked, hot rod-ed, Marshall territory on mine. No hum....unless I’m playing P90s(which I do occasionally ;))
I really hope this amp ticks all of the boxes for you!

Hiss at 2:30 is about right for mine too. Thank you for this suggestion. I think this is right for where I am right now. With the mids and treble rolled back, you get a tight low end that shows sparkle when you bring the treble back up. It sings with sustain. There is plenty of gain on tap. Lots of good stuff in there!

It sounds nice through my Panama 2x12 too. Unfortunately, that is only 60W. Time for another cab!
Or replace the speakers. I believe the Celestion G12M-65 Cream backs compliment those seeking the Dumbalee tones. A couple 65 watt rated speakers makes for a 130 watts of power handling. WGS, Eminence, Weber, Scumback (... my favorite), Tone Tubby make speakers in this style.

BTW... Congrats on what should be a very sweet amp...

The Panama cab is impenatrable - front loaded speakers and sealed grill. I could make some adjustments to the purple box, but I actually have plans for a new 2x12. I need to make some room first though. My Peavey Classic 50 is up for sale, and my Kustom is being gifted. When the Peavey goes, I will have all the room I need for the right cab
