SiriusXM Relaunches Neil Young Radio, a Day After His Music Was Removed From Spotify

Love Neil Young. He’s always stood up for what he believes in. But this never works.

Remember waaaaayyyy back, mechanic that worked in the shop I was at…. Got all bent out of shape at the service manager. Marched into the bosses office and demanded him (service manager) or me (mechanic). Guess which one left??

I've never been able to endure Young's vocals long enough to listen to his catalog. But, I applaud anyone who speaks up for what they believe in, so long as they afford others the same courtesy.
Been a fan since the original Woodstock. Readily admit, he doesn’t have the most melodic voice. Figure if I can look past Bon Scott, Brian Johnson and Geddy Lee….. I can accept Neil.

I've several NY tunes in my personal repertoire, played his stuff in bands, old man, long may you run, hey hey, heart, harvest moon etc.
I have read his autobiography, I own Decade and probably six or seven other NY albums. He's into me for big dollars over quite a few years.
Stellar musician, important even. I even felt bad for him when his first wife came down with MS, and he raised a child with cerebral palsy.
He's had his share of life challenges, not the slightest which was David Crosby LOL
Even was a little bummed when one of his homes burnt down in the Cali fires.

But when a few years ago when he flew his Lear up to Fort Mac and started mouthing off about dirty oil, and global warming/polluting the planet, I instantly lost my respect.
Will not buy any NY crap ever again, his musical product, nor his grumpy old man mouth piddles. He had no idea what he was talking about. I live here, and I know how
much effort it takes oil companies to do any work up here. How super-regulated they are, and how under-regulated and outright backward other countries are that we import
way too much petroleum from.

I enjoyed watch him self-cancel over the past two days, actually the best kind of cancel possible. He'll be ok. He's richer than most kings.

He obviously thinks he is a very powerful fellow to attempt to hold himself hostage against open / free communication and dissenting medical opinion.
I thought he sold off his music anyway. So somebody else loses the dough, not him. How brave.

Done with Young. He became everything he most certainly despised as a young man. Perhaps a lesson for us all.

I don’t know. Did it really backfire. He sure doesn’t need the pennys he gets for his songs streamed on Spotify…… and agree or disagree….. it sure got people talking.
I'd say so. He gave an ultimatum. Either him or me. He tried to cancel Rogan and got dropped himself.

If anything it proved how irrelevant he is to the younger generations that are likely unaware of who he is. It also resulted in a lot of negativity towards him. I'd call that a backfire.

He actually asked to have his music removed from Spotify. They just fulfilled his wish.

Hmm. I never viewed it as an ultimatum. I don't think for a moment he believed that he had the power to make them drop their most profitable (and expensive) podcast.
I looked at it from the first as him making it known that he would no longer associate himself with such a source of dangerous disinformation, and for that I have to applaud him.

“They can have Neil Young or Rogan. Not Both.” - N. Young

So what would you call a remark like that then? Just curious, not looking for an argument.

"... such a source of dangerous disinformation..." Nobody forces anyone to listen to or take anything from Joe Rogan. Amazing how many want to silence him in a free country. No room for discourse I guess, just step in line - no questions asked.

The beauty of Neil he has always said what he thinks. Sometimes it's better to tap into the wisdom of Zappa

“They can have Neil Young or Rogan. Not Both.”

He didn't just ask. He issued a demand, an ultimatum, whatever anyone wants to call it.

He got his wish which again proves my point. He is more irrelevant now than ever.

It's just the way it is.

He did for sure say that. Days earlier though, he told Spotify and his label to pull his music. No ultimatum given. Just remove his music. Ultimatum came later. Either way. He got what he wanted. However one wants to view it. Not gonna change my opinion of the man or his music one way or the other.

That's your prerogative. Wasn't trying to change anyone's mind.

Though he did give an ultimatum, regardless of when.
