Neil Peart

I just watched a video yesterday where Neil is describing how after many years of using a matched grip when drumming, he switched to a traditional grip.

I respect that. Meaning, I respect when even an established musician strives to explore new ideas and to find areas of growth.

I’ve been reading his books. He’s as good an author as he was a drummer. In one of his books he mentioned how he still worked with a teacher… even after all those years of being one of the best. I believe it was the teacher that got him to experiment with changing his grip.

I'm not surprised. He wrote a lot of great lyrics for the band.

So far I’ve read three and am reading a fourth. I’ve also read Iommi’s book “Iron Man” and one written by Steve Lake before he passed away. A good friend of Lake actually wrote the last chapter of the book. So far. Peart’s books have been the best written. Iommi’s, while entertaining was just ok. Lake’s fell into the middle….. but definitely better written than Tony’s.
