I've been wanting to do an amp project for some time and I think it's about time to get my butt started. I'd like to build a single channel amp that is inspired by a discovery I made a few years ago.
I was cruising CL as I usually do and came across this amp being sold by a Pawn Shop:
It was listed as the BFG-100. A Billy Gibbons signature Crate amp. I did some digging and it seems that good ol' Billy played through Crate in their later years before they folded. I went into the shop and checked out the amp, and it was a stage prop only. No circuits, no Tx's or tubes, just a power plug and the front panel, with indicator lights. They wanted $150 at the time and I didn't see the value. Boy how I really regret that.
A few years later, I found the cabinets which I've shown here before. I have a BV120 from Crate that I modified slightly and then remodeled the cabinet to look like the above.
Now I'd like to build that amp in the picture above.
- Single channel,
- 100watt, but not sure what circuit to put into it. A regular JCM800, or maybe a Magnatone since that's what he's playing now. Maybe tweak it a little bit just to make it a little "personalized."
- Bass, Mid, Treble, Presence.
- 1/2 power switch
- Gain, Master Volume
- Effects Loop
Anyways, please help a lost tech decide.
