NBD!

OK, you don't often see them.

When I play bass, it feels comfortable to put your thumb on the top of the pickup and pluck away from there, so I always wondered why the rest is under the strings on the pickguard when I'd prefer it above the strings between the two pickups; something like this:

The one on the pickguard is for the fingers if you pluck with your thumb. I always found that one a bit strange as well. (But I'll leave it there since it is an original feature an it isn't in the way.)

LEo Fender was convinced bass players would rest there FINGERS on the rest and pluck bass with their thumb the original 50's design had the "rest" BELOW the strings on the pickguard as seen on this Squire 50's reissue Precision

personally I employ a FLOATING thumb technique which allows me to mute unused stings with my thumb OR use it like gutiar finger picking for chords or harmonics-- most versatile option IMHO

I also use the pinky at times as a mute if I am using all three fingers to pluck (like in an Iron Maiden song---) or IF I just want to play faster but slower (if that makes sense--- then you might be a bass player ;) )

So, I need an amplifier to go with the EB-0. I think I’ll have to buy a new one, because there is not a lot to choose from second hand here. I don’t want anything very big, but I would like to have a 12" speaker at least. I’ve been looking at the Fender Rumble 100 (V3). It is fairly cheap at around $300, and seems to get good reviews. Does anyone here have any experience with it?

Check with Robert , I believe he has one.

Yay! I just won an auction on ebay for a bass amp head!

I've been going back and forth regarding what I wanted to do, and I kinda wanted a vintage amp, sice the bass is vintage... The auction I just won was for a 1967/68 Selmer Treble 'n' Bass head. This is an amp that can be used both for bass and guitar. It was a very popular amp in Britain in the 1960s. At 50 W it is not an extremely loud bass amp, but far more powerful than what I'll be needing for home use. Now I just need a cabinet to go with it. I'll be looking for a decent 1x12". I don't want anything larger for my living room .

I guess this is essentially the same amp used for guitar by Syd Barrett in Pink Floyd.

Some pics of the actual head (from the ebay listing):

I can’t really afford this :poo: though. I’m hoping for some quick sales of other stuff here...

One cool thing is that since this doubles as a bass and guitar head, I have no qualms about selling my Vox AC30. The AC30 has served me well, but after getting the Gibson GA-20, I haven’t used the Vox. I reckon the Selmer will be a good match for my Vox v4x12 cabinet.

Very nice amp - must admit I'd never heard of the brand, but the clip sounds great; very tight and lively with plenty of personality.

It'll be interesting to hear your review when it arrives. Is there any problems with using guitar speakers with this bass/guitar head?

Selmer was used by lots of British bands. The Beatles used Selmer before rising to fame and swithcing to Vox. The guitar in the Animals’ recording of «House of the RisiNg Sun» is done with a Selmer, Syd Barrett used Selmer, Gerry and the Pacemakers used Selmer amps. The list could get long, but Selmer never achieved the level of fame that Vox and Marshall did. I guess the name is most known these days because of the stories from their shop that used to be on Charing Cross road; a music store catering for all the stars in the 1960s and ‘70s.

2 great scores in 1 thread!
Congrats, should be there soon, yes?
HOpe it all checks out.

Always wanted to try my hand(s) at bass - considered after the first crash and burn attempts at guitar.
I'll stick with just one instrument I can almost kinda play for now, and some harmonica.

However,I was eyeing used trumpets on CL locally here.... trumpets I said, not strumpets!!
