Sold my Roadhouse Stratocaster yesterday. I had it on Craig's List looking for a trade for a P-Bass. A guy phoned up and wanted to buy it outright. He offered my full asking price so I couldn't turn him down. Today I was in Vancouver for a trip to the eye clinic. My wife wanted to stop at a yarn and fabric store. She was done in a few minutes. We had an hour to kill before my eye appointment. Westcoast guitars a shop that specializes in better guitars for gigging musicians was a block away. Last time I was there they didn't have any basses but I had time to kill and I could see some nice guitars. Since the last time I was there they had become the Canadian distributer for Tokai Japan. They had four Tokai APB97 Hard Puncher basses. No price tags on them so I asked the price He said he could do $1,000 plus taxes. He has them listed on reverb for $1,109.19. I said that was out of my price range but he said go ahead and try them. There is always a few working musicians hanging out there and they started talking about the Tokai basses. Apparently Randy Bachman's (local Vancouver guy) bass player plays one and Loverboy's (top local band) bass player also plays one. Any way my wife was waiting in the car so I said goodbye. He asked me what my bottom line was. I told him what I sold the strat for. It was considerably less. He said he'd do it for cash. The basses are new but they have all been played in the shop so he lists them on reverb as used in case there are any scratches. I said I'd go for it ,went to the bank to get the cash, and walked out with a beautiful Olympic White Tokai P-Bass clone. It is spectacular. Fit and finish is perfect. I only have my PA though a DI to plug to it in right now but it has the P-Bass sound down pat. I guess I have to look for bass amp now.

We bought my grandson a Fender Rumble 40 for his birthday last June. I was very impressed. I will probably go that way. I bought the bass for recording so the XLR out is perfect. Right now I'm playing through a DI into my PA.

Here's the link to the specs, although mine has a maple fret board.

I'm quite happy it's certified.
There are sooooo many basses that are "not" certified.

But did they need to really name their city "Shitz u Oka?"
I'm think this over, carefully.

HNBD, Congrats, looks great.
In Sweden not many stores have Tokai Guitars/basses
Not many here either. I don’t think they are available in the US or Canada unless you import them from Japan. Looking on Google almost all the hits are Japan, Australia, and New Zealand.

There are quite a few Chinese and Korean fakes around, sometimes called Fakai. Some of the Korean ones were pretty good guitars. I’ve owned a few Japanese Fenders and one 80’s Tokai telecaster. This one is easily the equal of any Japanese guitar I’ve owned, better than most.

Edit: Did a bit of digging. Apparently Tokai has legitimate Chinese as well as Japanese made guitars now.

OH OH OH OH BASS AMPS --best stupid fun bang for the BUCK? -- FENDER RUMBLE -- hands down NO B..S.
stupid good for the $
Would you recommend going below 40W in the Rumble range.
I am thinking of getting something just for the home and don't need the X.L.R. or overdrive.
I think I just need a decent clean amp to put a modelling pedal through (Zoom MS-60B).
