Sold my Roadhouse Stratocaster yesterday. I had it on Craig's List looking for a trade for a P-Bass. A guy phoned up and wanted to buy it outright. He offered my full asking price so I couldn't turn him down. Today I was in Vancouver for a trip to the eye clinic. My wife wanted to stop at a yarn and fabric store. She was done in a few minutes. We had an hour to kill before my eye appointment. Westcoast guitars a shop that specializes in better guitars for gigging musicians was a block away. Last time I was there they didn't have any basses but I had time to kill and I could see some nice guitars. Since the last time I was there they had become the Canadian distributer for Tokai Japan. They had four Tokai APB97 Hard Puncher basses. No price tags on them so I asked the price He said he could do $1,000 plus taxes. He has them listed on reverb for $1,109.19. I said that was out of my price range but he said go ahead and try them. There is always a few working musicians hanging out there and they started talking about the Tokai basses. Apparently Randy Bachman's (local Vancouver guy) bass player plays one and Loverboy's (top local band) bass player also plays one. Any way my wife was waiting in the car so I said goodbye. He asked me what my bottom line was. I told him what I sold the strat for. It was considerably less. He said he'd do it for cash. The basses are new but they have all been played in the shop so he lists them on reverb as used in case there are any scratches. I said I'd go for it ,went to the bank to get the cash, and walked out with a beautiful Olympic White Tokai P-Bass clone. It is spectacular. Fit and finish is perfect. I only have my PA though a DI to plug to it in right now but it has the P-Bass sound down pat. I guess I have to look for bass amp now.
