How about this Epiphone Embassy bass? It’s kinda got the T-Bird pickup thing going on…
I was really tempted to buy one of these when they first came out, but other things got in the way.
They’re not crazy expensive, full scale(34), and Sweetwater can’t decide what the controls actually do ;)
Is it vol, vol, tone? Is it vol, blend, tone? Surprise me…

The embassy is exactly the bass I tried to referenced in video (I didn’t know what it was) where the guy is saying what he don’t like about the thunderbird.
Looks like this could do the job more successfully.

ESP makes a bass they call the Phoenix 1004,
It looks very close to a thunderbird but they are $1100.

I probably won’t buy a thunderbird because of the weird 3 point bridge and it’s overall awkward ergonomics.

It’s also what I was referencing when I said…maybe have a look at some of the Epiphone offerings…only two with the T-Bird pickup positioning. The Embassy, and the T-Bird, really…They currently have 10 models of bass guitars, and three of them are T-Bird models ;) . The Embassy looks close to T-bird spacing, but as I’m looking at it again…not certain…on the T-Bird, it looks like they might be closer together…maybe the pickguard is throwing me….

I read something that straight up said the pickups are thunderbird pickups.
Another thing the thunderbird has going on is I believe it has walnut as well as mahogany body/ neck.

The neck through Gibson models definitely have walnut stringers/strips. If you look at the back of one of the see-through finish models, it’s readily visible…and yep, the current Epiphone models also offer 7, and 9, ply mahogany and walnut neck through designs(depending upon the particular model…
The Rex Brown model has a setup like this:

Neck Material

9-ply Okoume (Gaboon Mahogany) or Sapelli (Sapelli Mahogany)/Walnut Neck-through-body

It’s not uncommon for a neck through guitar/bass to have a multi piece/ply neck, and many feature walnut layers…amongst other species. Some may even have a layer, or two, of carbon fiber(or graphite) incorporated for rigidity purposes. My TL-6 supposedly has a layer of graphite, or carbon fiber, on top of its 7 piece maple/walnut neck.

Well , I decided and I hope it does something different than the squire. Nothing wrong with squire. Just changing it up.
I ordered a used Embassy.
Sweet! What color! What year? I ask the year because the first run had some difficulties with bridge/tailpiece positioning…pretty sure they nailed it down soon after.
I think/hope you will be happy with it. You have re-raised my curiosity about these, but I have a pretty good selection that covers a lot of ground.

It’s white. Not sure on the year , if it has a problem it will go right back to them.

Judging by the current colors it is older. This article is from 2019.

It is way better to play the guitar before you buy it, I don't doubt it.

But the lure of the shiny paint job, the virgin newness, and 3 easy payments. They make it too easy.
They told me they don't sell merchandise, the business is : they sell dreams / they make dreams come true.
The problem for me is on lower end guitars, new guitars you are almost always get something other than rosewood.

For some reason , it’s not letting me view the order except details. This is the only thing I can get right now.

Looking at the pic, the bridge adjustment is not pinned full back on any of the strings. The first run had some of the bridges placed too far toward the neck, so you would see them adjusted fully rearward. If it’s intonation is set up properly in the pic, looks good.

The fretboard seems to be ebony.
I don’t know what you call this type of string but I they are very tightly wound and very smooth. Heavy gauge it looks like. I like the feel and tone. I guess these are flat wound.
