Buddy has tons of vintage guitars & amps ,,saw this. Grabbed it today dates 1965 but so much is changed..tuners -bridge ect.. Pelham blue sprayed over red mahogany. Has Gibson truss rod adjustment nut. Set up incredible. low & the neck is so SG like. Started taking it apart. Stopped

It sounds Absolutely killer--i mean exactly like it should i dont wanna know anymore..gonna play the poop outta it..Eb 3.jpgEb 3 a.jpgEB 3 b.jpg

Wow this is a great bass. The tone circuit is removed & the FB & Mudbucker are running wide open . I use Mud to bring in bass to need & the FB to punch. I like it better this way.

This & The Mustang very much compliment each other for the 2 tones required. Will only need the SVT 2 Pro , NV610 cab & a tuner for live work, Its all in the knobs man..Come on Tuesday get herelearned the songs & ready for the audition ..

lets talk about it

The FB pickup is high up towards middle more in a P bass position instead of down at bridge

The Pickguard has a notch out fr 70's mudbucker mount that wasn't up against the neck

It has 3 way instead of varitone type switch

the rosewood is amazing up close

70's style Grover tuners.

It doesn't much matter to me cause it sounds great which is all i care about in my gear & plays super easy & fast. But its a pretty wild combo of stuff. Pots are replaced & cant really determine by that. Guy i got it from is a strait up guy. Know him for years. His thought was 1965 from remembering . I just cant get the serial # right cause of re spray but its a 5 digit

Really getting to know this bass

I have a feeling more of these are on 60's & 70's records than they give credit. Always the P gets the fame but this thing burps & does the motown very natural

The mudbucker is approx 30 k & FB is 9. So when you blend its very unique but yet in a way all you need. Cause that meeting in the zone you want is so able to be varied. The mudbucker is basically useless on its own but blended in..its like have a blend able drive with the clean. But not like in trypical Gibson guitar way. The mud starts to come in way earlier being so hot

With the tone pots out of this circuit it is actually more functional to me.

Now on a P or Mustang, must have the tone knob. 25-50% on is the old school thud in a mix but with just enough mid-treble where it sits exactly where its needed. Just like a plexi totally annoying alone playing but but start the band up..hummm..just where it needs to be.

Have you posted it at talkbass?
Gonna take it apart soon. After audition. Don;t wanna argue on the internet over this lol. part of me says just enjoy it but am getting more intrigued in the history of it & all the crazy clones,

Also my buddy owned music store from way back & has more American necks & bodies kicking around & the most NOS tubes i ever saw, 1000's of em. Can make up almost anything if needed. Has a 1966 Fender Mustang bass neck offered me. Might get that & find older USA body
